LAUREN & BEAR

Lauren and Matt, also known as Bear by his family met at their local rugby club where Bear plays! “I was introduced to him as Bear and initially I thought he had ‘happy eyebrows’ and seemed really friendly” Lauren never thought to ask if ‘Bear’ was his real name and didn’t actually find out that his proper name was Matt until two weeks before they started dating!
For their first date, Bear took Lauren to an Italian restaurant called Don Gianvanni’s. Lauren was understandably nervous to begin with but the date was ‘amazing‘! I was so nervous and ended up saying some really silly things which I immediately wished I hadn’t, like saying to the waiter “aren’t you really good at reading the menu, are you really Italian?”. Thankfully Bear just laughed it off!
Bear showered Lauren with gifts including his rather clever plan to propose to her on her birthday! Bear took Lauren to Windermere for two nights and had told Lauren he had bought her an expensive present which he had imported from abroad! “I was so excited”. The morning of Lauren’s birthday came and bear told her she was to open her presents in a specific order! Lauren opened it to find a cake with a picture of her and bear on the cake. “Initially I thought it was a birthday cake and was so pleased with it then I read the bottom… Lauren will you marry me? I was overjoyed! The boy did good!” Bear also bought Lauren a beautiful pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, a Marc Jacobs bag, and a limited edition Christian Louboutin champagne.
Lauren knew where she wanted to look for her wedding dress straight away! Lauren passed Blush bridal in Uppermill regularly and always gazed into the windows at the gowns. “It looked magical.” When her and Bear got engaged she knew she needed to go there! The staff were “lovely” and made Lauren feel like a princess when going in for fittings! After trying on about 30 dresses, Lauren chose a Ronald Joyce dress called Veronica and knew it was “the one”. “I loved everything about it, it was effortlessly beautiful. It had everything I’d been looking for, the detailed back, the little bit of cleavage and the understated sparkle that every bride should have.” Lauren wore a beautiful Swarovski headband which sparkled to match the dress and her mum bought her a pair of earrings for her big day. Her shoes were cerise pink strappy heels from Dune which had a silver sparkly sole – they were a gift from her brother.
Bear had also bought Lauren some underwear and a garter as her ‘something new’. As for ‘something Blue’ Bear had blue Adidas trainers made with “Mrs Bear” on the heel which Lauren never has off her feet now! “As my ‘something borrowed’ Bear had some old silver which his mum had bought him, he had had this melted down and not only had his wedding ring made, but also a bangle and stud earrings with blue sapphires.”
Lauren wanted the multiway dresses for her 3 bridesmaids and close friends which she sourced from a company online called The Diantyard. “I ordered the dresses in hot pink and when they came they looked amazing. We had a night at my house trying them on and deciding which neckline suited which bridesmaid.”
Bear hired his suit from Moss Brothers. It was a light weight grey three piece suit. He wore a white tie and pocket square to make him stand out from the other ushers. Bear had 3 Ushers and two best men who all wore a matching three piece grey suit however with a pink tie and pocket square. Sadly the family lost Bears mum 6 years ago and wanted her to be a part of the day. Lauren had some locket cufflinks made for him and put a photo of his mum in them! – What a lovely touch!
The couple tied the knot at Doubletree Hilton Chester.“We had visited here a few years earlier for Bears birthday and both said how lovely it would be to get married there.” They decided on The Abbey Suite, which was beautiful and had its own private garden which really fitted in with the feel of the day. Lauren was walked down the aisle by her dad to The Verve Bittersweet Symphony.
The reception was held in Delamere Forest in beautiful outdoor Tipi’s by Woodland Weddings which the couple found whilst at a wedding fayre at Tatton park.
The theme for the day was based around a rustic feel with handmade crates with a striking colour scheme of pink and orange to compliment the brick features of the Abbey Suite. With this in mind Lauren contacted a company based in York called the Brides Table for some bespoke decorations for the day. “We had made some beautiful pink and orange flowers for my pew ends and also hired out hessian and lace sashes for my chairs. Katy at Brides Table was so efficient and completely understood the look I was going for.”
“At the tipis I wanted it to be bright and follow a laid back theme, just like me and Bear.” Lauren organised bunting and paper pom poms to adorn the ceilings, with lots of personal touches such as Bears mums old portable vinyl player. The couple decided they didn’t want flowers on the tables so opted for decorating with vinyl records and record sleeves, naming all of the tables after their favourite Manchester bands. Lauren spent hours along with her mum and Nanna decorating jars which family and friends had been collecting for months, which went on tables with tea lights in.
Recommended by Doubletree Hilton, a company called Acer flowers fashioned Lauren’s beautiful bouquets packed with pink gerberas and orange roses mainly. The bridesmaids had corsages and a pink gerberas and orange rose on a sparkly bracelet which they could wear again.
Similar to the theme of the day, Lauren and Bear wanted an informal summer BBQ feast and icecream which was hosted by company Travelling Gourmet. They booked a VW icecream van and doubled up on the ice cream being dessert and favours for guests too. “We had little wafers in the ice cream that said “one scoop or two, this is our thanks to you”.
When they arrived at the tipis the couple had a handfast which is a pagan blessing. “We decided we wanted this as we had been married as Mr & Mrs Worthington at the hotel and now needed to be married as MR & Mrs Bear. It was so lovely and personal and everyone seemed to enjoy it.” They also had a DJ playing for the day which included 10 must play songs from both Lauren and Bear. Bob, the organiser and owner of Wedding Woodland Tipi’s also set up a sack race, a tug of war and welly wangling for guests which gave Lauren and Bear time to have pictures together, and time to spend together.
The couples first dance song had to be Sally Cinnamon by The Stone Roses as everyone associated it with Lauren and Bear so it was an easy choice!
