Sarah & Chris
I’d been away on a work trip to Thailand and Chris came to pick me up. When we got home, I found the conservatory full of candles and presents on the sofa. Turning around, Chris was on bended knee! He used a fake ring knowing how fussy I am and had even asked my daughter Chloe’s permission to marry her mum! Chloe and Kai, my son, then came in with Champagne!
“I found my cream, lace fishtail Benjamin Roberts dress at Stella Liliana in Studley, Warwickshire. I fell in love with it straight away, it made me feel like a princess and a film star all at once!”
I found my Jon Richard jewellery in Debenhams to complement my hair, which I wore curled and pulled to one side. My sparkly peep-toe shoes were Carvella by Kurt Geiger. I loved the platform heel!
Chris wore a three-piece tuxedo, hired from Heaphys in Redditch. His shirt had a white collar but black buttons for a stylish take on tradition. He looked so handsome and I felt really proud to be marrying him! I loved seeing him as I walked down the aisle. As he looked back at me he got all emotional – the whole day just meant so much to us both.
My daughter Chloe, my sister Cathy and my best friend Amanda were my three bridesmaids. They wore floor-length, strapless grey gowns with diamante embellishments along the sweetheart neckline. The dresses came from my friend’s boutique, Claire Marie Dresses of Distinction, and we accessorised them with diamante heels.
Ruth Hancox MUA worked absolute magic with Estee Lauder, MAC, Urban Decay and other products to name a few! My trusted hairdresser Laura Pickersgill from Destin, Astwood Bank did our hair – I trusted her completely and wouldn’t have had anyone else for my big day.
Guests enjoyed a hot buffet of vegetarian chilli, beef stew, chicken in white wine sauce, crusty bread, rice and chips. The food was served with wine and fizz and Chris and I had a bottle of Grey Goose on hand, too. Our wedding cake was our dessert.
My friend Emma read a lovely poem by Edward Monkton called ‘A Lovely Love Story’ before Chris stepped forward for both the groom and best man’s speeches – Kai, my nine-year-old son, was the best man, so he didn’t want to give a speech. Chris delivered his in front of the open fire in a wonderfully relaxed way, taking every guest in turn and telling a sentimental story about them. It made the experience so personal.
“We got the idea for our Hollywood glamour theme in Wedding Ideas – the theme pages and real weddings were a huge source of inspiration, especially for our lighting and centrepiece choices.”
We opted for black and white ostrich feathers in LED vases for each table, surrounded by scattered crystals. Twinkly lights hung from the beams and we hired lit up letters and a heart from Penny Lace Vintage, Worcester, as well as a cream post box for cards.
Lili Floral Art, Redditch, provided my bouquet and the buttonholes.
We had a three-tier white cake with an edible red hydrangea on top! One tier was chocolate, one vanilla and one lemon and my wonderful friend Kerry Lillis made it for us!
Chris works in IT so we didn’t want to go down the standard route for stationery. Instead, we made our own app on the Appy Couple website, sending invitations and messages by email.
We enjoyed a familymoon to Mexico with the kids after our wedding, swimming with dolphins, enjoying the sea and even parasailing! It was the best holiday we have ever been on – Mexico is a must-go for honeymooners!
We used the Wedding Ideas wedding checklist and had everything planned and in place five months before the wedding so we could fine-tune things without any panic.
