The Wedding Ideas Awards 2014 are voted for by thousands of real brides all over the UK. But after they’ve had their say, the top five companies in each category get passed over to an expert panel of judges to make the final decision. What’s it like to be a judge on the UK’s biggest consumer wedding awards? We caught up with three of them to find out…

“It’s a huge responsibility to play a part in choosing the nation’s favourite wedding suppliers,” says wedding planning and 2014 judge Alison Tinlin. “I am honoured that Wedding Ideas has chosen me to take on this role.”

“Casting a vote when faced with a multitude of outstanding wedding suppliers is a hard task, but there were those that stood out for me in the service they provided and the human face of their business – they have been chosen as my winners.”

“The standard of submission as always was very high. The wedding industry surprises me every day with new and awesome talent  and its amazing that these suppliers have the opportunity to be recognised by brides and grooms for their work.”

Commercial Director of hitched.co.uk Darren Noel agrees: “The competition this year exceeds that of 2013 and I’m excited to support and see the winners of the Wedding Ideas Awards 2014 be recognised throughout the year.”

“As always, getting to see the shortlisted selection of superb suppliers first is always a bonus, but what excites me is the fresh, new talent that comes through to the wedding industry year on year.”

“Researching all of the different entries was not only inspirational, but it just proves that the shortlisted selection of suppliers have made an incredible effort in representing themselves, both on paper and in their web presence.”

And when all this effort is recognised by real brides and peers alike, it’s an incredible, and sometimes overwhelming, feeling for the winners – just take a look at two of our favourite acceptance speeches from last year…

After starring as a real-life bride in the magazine herself last year, former Showbiz Editor of the Daily Star Jess Brown has written numerous articles for Wedding Ideas. She’s covered everything from health and beauty to fashion and celebs.

“I was thrilled to be asked to judge this year’s Wedding Ideas Awards. It’s such a fun, dynamic and creative magazine, it was a pleasure to get involved and congratulate wedding suppliers who deserve a nod of recognition. There are so many talented people who sometimes fall under the radar and I was glad to be able to recognise them.”

“I found the voting process really rewarding. Although it was a lengthy task and there were so many deserving candidates, I feel I easily connected with my chosen winners. I was really impressed with how many fantastic suppliers are doing a sterling job. Once again the wedding industry proves itself to be full of hard working, creative, lovely people!”

“I think the standards of submissions this year were very high. In a lifestyle where suppliers need to be one step ahead due to constantly changing social media and high expectations from savvy brides, I thought the candidates were fresh, unique, inspiring and had their fingers on the pulse.”
