Here at Wedding Ideas, we’re always keeping an eye on celebrity weddings – here’s how the A-list will be celebrating their big days in 2014, and who we hope will be getting engaged in the new year!
A palace wedding for Kim and Kanye?
There were a fair few celebrity engagements in 2013, but one of our very favourites has got to be Kimye. Kanye West proposed to girlfriend Kim Kardashian on her 33rd birthday with a 50-piece orchestra and a real blingfest diamond – no surprises there then!
They’re not ones for understatement, it’s not so much of a surprise to hear that the couple are investigating hiring the Palace of Versailles just outside Paris for their wedding reception and they are allegedly ‘not working to a budget’.
Versailles was the home of French King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette, which means it should be just as grand enough for Kim and Kanye. We hope they do get married there – it would be the most incredible backdrop and we’re longing to see the photographs!
An A-lister wedding planner gives us the insider info
Mind you, royalty and the aristocracy have always played a part in defining wedding style, as celebrity wedding planner Liz Taylor of the Taylor Lynn Corporation explains – and she’d know, having organized parties for big names such as Gary Barlow. Here Liz tells us what she organized for her A-list wedding clients in 2013 and what they’re asking for their 2014 weddings.
“2013 was all about creating stunning room décor with quite elaborate detailing. Styles such as elegant Downton-inspired vintage were still popular in the autumn and winter seasons, and themes such as Alice in Wonderland were popular in spring and summer as they offered a bright and vibrant feel. Less is more this year though, with less opulent styles and more focus on an understated, chic feel.
“In 2014, fashion influences are going to be big, with stylish Chanel-inspired table linens teamed with chocolate brown napkins and orange orchids becoming popular for a sophisticated look.
“Spring is all about layers and textures, with much more use of woven fabrics and lace as a base for simple spring flowers in pale pinks and lemons. Many of the style-conscious set are choosing traditional roses and peonies in pinks and lilacs, placed on tables of cream or ivory linens, and we will then individualise settings with scented candles, candelabra and coloured glassware.
We will still see an element of monochrome or the use of two colours in the wedding styling – often the choice of the football community – so that everyone dresses to match the reception colours. Black and white is always stylish, but many choose their team colours which can be a little more complex!”
Dancing with the stars
“When it comes to entertaining the stars, less big name celebrity entertainment will be seen this year, and much more focus on continental party bands and urban DJs to keep the party moving. They provide a lovely atmosphere all night long and can very much be focused on what the audience really wants to hear, rather than a celebrity ego clash!
“When a magazine deal is involved, more emphasis will be placed on entertaining the celebrity guests. Since the bride and groom need their celebrity pals to join in photographs, a greater amount of money will be spent on ensuring they are entertained rather than spent on lavish room dressing. So expect more entertainment at the drinks reception such as wandering magicians like Dynamo, interactive musicians and the like.”
And what do celebs eat at their weddings?
“Catering is still about simple cuisine, but with even more innovative presentation – soups served in teapots and teacups, duos of pies with individual gravy jugs and sticky puds for dessert. For evening wedding parties, the trend is still about fabulous food buffets serving hot curries, crepes, fish and chips, sushi and Thai foods. New though, will be the champagne station where you can personalise your glass of fizz with syrups, infused sugar cubes and fruit purees.
“The trend for top tables comes and goes, with some couples choosing the ‘Posh and Becks’ throne style, while others prefer to sit amongst their guests. This year will be very much a mixed picture. Some couples are choosing a traditional top table set-up, whilst others prefer a ‘bridal’ table where just the happy couple sit. When step and extended families are involved, we will see more celebrity couples moving among tables between courses, so that they can spend some time with all members of their family.”
And where is it all happening?
“Celebrity wedding venues will revert back to the traditional style. Fewer couples will opt for contemporary spaces which require lots of styling; instead we will see many more stately homes, palaces and gothic buildings where the architecture provides a magnificent backdrop. Think Kensington Palace, Blenheim Palace and Aynhoe Park. Marquee weddings will remain as popular as ever though, as this offers huge amounts of flexibility.”
Harry & Cressida – an engagement on the cards?
Of course, the hottest couple that we’d all like to see getting engaged this year would be Prince Harry and his girlfriend Cressida Bonas. With the pair seeming really loved up, perhaps it’s on the cards for 2014?
If they do decide to tie the knot, there’s going to be a certain level of formality but we predict a lot of Harry’s hallmark cheeky fun would be included.
His girlfriend is a trained dancer so we think music and dancing would be important at the wedding reception – with maybe a few celeb guests dancing Strictly-style?
Mila and Ashton
Another couple that seem inseparable are Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher – they’re so together they’ve even been seen wearing matching T-shirts. If they marry we think they’d go for a quiet, low-key wedding day – especially as Ashton isn’t long divorced from his first wife, Demi Moore – but let’s see them getting engaged first!
And to tie the knot?
Is it going to be the year Angelina and Brad walk down the aisle in front of their brood of beautiful children? We hope so! Angelina looks gorgeous in anything she wears, but we think she’d particularly suit a relaxed, Grecian goddess gown – particularly if she and Brad opt for an idyllic beach wedding.
