So what really is the secret to a happy marriage? Hayes and Jarvis has found that taking a honeymoon abroad is a sure way to keep the marital bliss!

The survey of more than 1,000 adults found 46% of survey respondents who were divorced did not go on a honeymoon, and a further 20% of divorcees went on a UK honeymoon.

Of those that are still happily married, 44% of them took a honeymoon overseas, too. Honeymoons are all about relaxation after the build up and stress of the big day, so it’s no surprise the results showed that the most important factor of the trip is romance and private experiences, with 48% of people selecting this as a crucial element for them.

While there’s been a trend in recent years with newlyweds opting to save money and wait to take their big honeymoon, almost half of those surveyed actually went straight on their trip after the wedding, and another 30% jetted off less than a week later. Only 4% of survey respondents took a mini-break and saved for a honeymoon at a later stage.
