A stuck shoe gave this bride and groom a real-life Cinderella moment at their fairytale summer wedding in Ilchester, Somerset…
The bride’s outfit
Nikola looked sensational in her A-line tulle gown by Sweetheart, with intricate floral appliqués and a gathered waist. “It made me feel amazing – I didn’t realise my waist could look so small!” Nikola recalls. She teamed her dress with a handmade flower and pearl side tiara, and a satin-edged chapel-length veil. “I realised the night before the wedding that it was just like my late mother’s veil, which made it feel even more special,” Nikola explains.
The groom’s outfit
Bryan wore a sharp, slim-fitting grey suit from Moss Bros, with a grey pinstripe waistcoat from Next and Superman cufflinks. “When I saw him on our wedding day, I turned to jelly and started to cry – he was the most handsome man I had ever seen,” smiles Nikola.
The bridesmaids
Nikola chose four close friends as her bridesmaids. “I though carefully about how they could use their skills on the day without being overwhelmed, and they were incredible – even our venue said they were the best bridesmaids they’d ever seen,” Nikola says. The fantastic four wore dresses from Coast, accessorised with cream satin sashes and lace brooches handmade by the bride.
The ceremony
Nikola and Bryan’s civil ceremony featured a real-life Cinderella moment. “When I reached the gazebo, my heel slipped between the gaps in the floor, and I had to turn around to the congregation to say I was stuck,” Nikola laughs. “I was in hysterics as my maid of honour came to my aid – she had to lift my foot out of the shoe, and then Bryan yanked the shoe out of the wood and put it back on my foot.”
The reception
Nikola and Bryan chose a vintage, handmade theme, which evolved to centre around the letter B, with birds, buttons, birdcages and bunting. “We joked that is was very fitting, as Bryan’s initials are BB!” Nikola says. “We also made vintage espresso cups into candles for the tables.” To reflect their love of gaming, the couple chose personalised dice in their royal blue colour scheme to give to their guests as favours.
The honeymoon
Nikola and Bryan honeymooned in sunny St Ives in Cornwall, where they enjoyed eating, shopping and surfing.
