In the latest installment of our meet the Wedding Ideas Awards 2013 sponsors series, we talk to Alison Hargreaves from Guides for Brides about wedding trends, the company and what the Wedding Ideas Awards mean to them
Guides for Brides started in 1995 when the founder, and now director, Alison Hargreaves, was planning her wedding. Despite having been involved in the wedding industry for several years she found it hard to find the more unusual businesses.
The first one was published in South Oxfordshire, but now there are nine directories in eight different counties. These are available to brides free of charge and distributed through high street wedding businesses and wedding fairs. The Guides for Brides website went online 12 years ago, and is now the UK’s most comprehensive wedding information website. Not only do they have 100,000 businesses listed, but they also have numerous pages of wedding ideas, wedding deals, an online wedding planner, a very informative blog and the UK’s biggest online wedding fair diary.
To keep up with new trends Guides for Brides launched the UK Weddings app two years ago and is now only a few weeks away from launching its Wedding Planner for iPhone and Android phones. Guides for Brides have helped thousands of couples since 1995 and is a trusted source of information, advice and essential contact details.

Tell us about the company
Guides for Brides Ltd is located in South Oxfordshire and is a trusted source of information, advice and essential contact details for both brides and grooms.
What do you think the key trends are for 2013?
Vintage wedding themes still seems to be a strong feature for 2013 with more unusual businesses like ice cream vans and VW campers becoming more available. There also seems to be an increase in Friday and Autumn weddings, with brides wanting to avoid the traditional Saturday summer wedding.
What does being involved in the Wedding Ideas Awards mean to you?
We speak to thousands of businesses every year and we recognise that a lot of wedding businesses are working on their own and do not get the recognition that they may deserve. The Wedding Ideas Awards help to address that and give everyone the chance to shine.
