Beauty expert, Esta Hughes from The Beauty Spot, gives us the lowdown on some of the latest make-up trends and tips for your wedding day look!
Should I do any research?
“First things first, find a company that specialise in bridal packages to provide everything you and your bridesmaids need to look and feel fab on the day. I recommend researching their work and even asking previous brides for referrals – Facebook is a great place to fnd reviews! It’s also a good idea to make sure there’s no additional costs for them to get to your chosen venue on the wedding morning.”
Why should I book a trial?
“It’s very important to book a trial at least two months prior to your wedding. Send pictures of your dress, bridesmaids dresses and hair and make-up looks – this will give the make-up artist and hair stylist an idea of what you like and want. During the trial they should also advise you on what you need to do on the morning of the wedding, for example: hair washed or unwashed, to moisturise or not – be sure to ask if nothing is said! At this first trial it’s a good idea to take a picture in natural light and with a flash to test if it looks how you want it to on film.
I’m a destination bride – help!
“When getting married abroad it can be nerve-wracking to let someone you’ve never met do your hair and make-up. Why not book a tutorial before you travel to learn how to do it yourself? They will be able to teach you and your bridal party hair and make-up looks for your wedding day. To make sure your make-up stays put in the heat I recommend using an oil free primer.
The common question
“The most common question we get asked is ‘Should I wear false eyelashes?’. If you feel comfortable wearing them, then yes! We love falsies at The Beauty Spot because they instantly add glamour to our look. Eylure Naturals offer individual lashes for a more natural appearance. If you are going to wear falsies, avoid the lashes coming off by using duo glue, which is water resistant – perfect for those emotion-filled speeches!”
What is strobing?
“The beauty world is buzzing with a new trend: strobing. Very similar to highlighting, it accentuates the high points of the face – great for brides because it looks amazing in pictures. If you’re wearing a strapless gown then make sure you highlight your collarbone as well.”
Top tips for a stress-free wedding morning
1. Always leave plenty of time in the morning to get ready as time goes so fast! Some brides don’t realise just how long it takes – because of this we have also been known to dress brides, and help put on shoes!
2. Always pack plenty of pain killers! Nerves can causes you a real headache and stress can even do funny things to your menstrual cycle. If you have something on hand it can take the stress away – especially if you’re getting married in a country house miles away from any shops.
3. Relax and enjoy your big day. The morning preparations are so special and if you have an experienced hair and make-up team they should put you at ease, so you can spend some quality time with your best girls.
