Stylish couple Kyrsty and Matthew had a colourful red and aqua wedding day inspired by the 1960s – we love their bird-themed reception!
How they met
“It sounds cheesy but I knew very early on that he was ‘the one’ because after only a few dates, I felt like I had known him for years. In a weird way, he reminds me of my dad – not to look at, but in his mannerisms, and I guess that made me feel secure, loved and very happy. We had both only recently become single after long-term relationships, so despite both of us playing it cool in the beginning we started talking about marriage after the first year – we were definitely on the same page,” smiles Kyrsty.
“We were in Barbados at the time and were having a lovely meal. Matt wasn’t his usual relaxed self and I was worried he was coming down with a sickness bug!” remembers Kyrsty. “We went for a walk on the beach afterwards and he knelt down and picked up a shell. He asked me to look at the shell and as I did, I saw the sparkle from a ring. As I digested this, he got down on one knee in the sand and proposed.
“I burst into tears before answering him, and he admitted later on that his heart stopped as he thought I was crying because I was going to say no! We then walked up to the beach front bar and had a glass of Champagne to celebrate, just us two. I’ve still got the shell he used to hide the ring,” she adds.
The bride’s outfit
Our bride created her 60s style with a simple Phoenix Brides gown, a 1960s-inspired pillbox hat (made bespoke by Candy Anthony) and a padded bullet bra from What Katie Did Next.
“I felt so relieved that I had finally found ‘the one’ – a dress that ticked all the boxes. I wanted to keep to my signature vintage style and my gown was simple, comfortable and made me feel amazing,” beams Kyrsty.
The groom’s outfit
Matt’s three-piece suit was from Reiss, his shirt by Marks and Spencer and his shoes were Louis Vuitton.
All wore stunning Monsoon dresses in a striking Tiffany blue. The sizes weren’t all available, so Kyrsty bought what they had in store on Oxford Street and had them altered so that they fitted each of her five pretty bridesmaids perfectly!
The reception was held in the Tithe Barn, adjacent to the ceremony room. “There was a mixture of themes for the decor, including vintage touches, birds (because Matt is a bird expert!) and our colours were Tiffany blue, red and pink,” explains Kyrsty.
The couple spent a glorious week in Saint Lucia followed by a second week in Barbados.
