Want a wedding venue full of quirky, photo-worthy details? Maunsel House in Somerset has got them all! Situated the heart of the Somerset countryside, Maunsel is a classic country house – with a twist. Here are just 7 alternative details that you must capture for your wedding album…
The Kings Room
The magnificent bridal suite, holding a custom made 8ftx6ft four poster bed with all the décor in rich red and gold, is a fine royal bedroom fit for a princess. The rope for the bell in the bell tower is in the room, and brides and grooms can make up their own reasons for tolling the bell – to call on tea service or maybe advise guests they are on their way down the aisle!
The Walnut Table
The 16th Century Tuscan solid walnut table is the centrepiece of the incredibly elegant sage green dining room. With its fabulous high ceilings and beautiful French windows and tall mirrors, the dining room provides the perfect setting for a drinks receptions, evening celebrations and the setting of your cake cutting.
Set in traditional walled gardens, the pergola lends itself to fabulous al fresco dining. It is covered with scented climbing plants such as jasmine, roses and wisteria and as the evening chill sets in, the chimineas are lit and the fairy lights add a touch of sparkle to any event.
The bar is in the oldest part of the house, dating back to pre-878 when Alfred the Great stayed the night! The bar houses an exciting collection of guns and swords. The roaring fire adds to a very cosy ambiance where you will want to sit back and enjoy a quiet nightcap before the big day ahead.
The bear in the library
A grizzly bear he once was, and he is now the backdrop to many a photo booth picture in the library! Adorned with a feather boa and Fez, he is just one of the many stuffed animals in Sir Benjamin Slade’s menagerie of interesting creatures around the house.
A beautiful old barn which houses a flock of white fantailed doves and peacocks who watch over your celebrations, set amidst acres of beautiful gardens, lakes and waterways which make for stunning backdrops for dreamy wedding photographs.
Look out, too, for miniature ponies, guinea fowls, ducks, geese and horses, all who add to this perfect country wedding location.
