For those that might not be familiar with V V Rouleaux, how would you describe it to them?
V V Rouleaux are the specialist trimmings supplier in the UK, offering the best and most diverse choice. We supply over 5,000 luxury ribbons, tassels, braids, flowers, feathers, cords and other trims in 100 colours. You won’t see a selection like ours anywhere else, and if we haven’t got what you’re looking for, we’ll make it for you. We’re all about quality and service. No job it too big or small and bespoke projects are our favourite.
Can you tell us a bit about the history of the business and how it came to be?
I founded V V Rouleaux in London in 1990 with the belief that there should be no barriers between weddings, fashion and interior design. This fluid approach inspired me to blend texture, pattern and colour into a sumptuous melting pot of couture trimmings. These can be used at a wedding, or in the home, as well as on a piece of clothing. We now have treasure trove shops in London’s fashionable Marylebone, and Bath’s historic shopping district, plus a fabulous new website vvrouleaux.com.
What sort of offerings can you find and why should it be on every bride-to-be’s radar?
When it comes to weddings, we’re all about beautiful silk flowers, vintage headdresses, exquisite lace, swoon-worthy feathers, bespoke ribbons and all of the little details, which make a wedding special. Perfection and quality is our specialty, and we’ll help you to make your wedding truly personal.
Can you tell us about the fabrics and colours of the trimmings and where they’re made?
We have 100 colours of ribbons and trimmings in so many materials. I source the materials personally from all around the world to ensure quality. Our ribbon collection includes stunning taffeta, satin, grosgrain, silk, wire edge, moiré, velvet and many more.
Do you need to have great vision and be really crafty, or are your team on hand with lots of advice?
We welcome customers with all levels of vision, craftiness and experience. We take the time to understand what you aim to achieve. From wedding décor to interior dilemmas, our wonderful team advises whole-heartedly with creative flare and knowledge. We also host workshops teaching you all the secret tricks of the V V Rouleaux trade.
Can you tell us about any relevant up-coming workshops?
We host fabulous wedding workshops, including hat making, ribbon flower making, bridal headdress making and tassel making. You can see all of our dates on our website vvrouleaux.com/lifestyle. We also host fun hen parties, on request.
We hear you offer hat making too?
Our bespoke hat creation service allows you to choose from all of our millinery ingredients, including flowers and feathers, to make a beautiful one-of-a-kind hat or fascinator to match your outfit. There’s no need to book, just pop in to our London or Bath shop and our millinery gurus will help you design an entirely new creation or update an existing headpiece of your own.
The hat will be pinned, before being stitched and ready for collection in 24 hours. Headbands begin at £9.95, pillbox bases at £42.00, and straw bases from £55.00. Then simply add the cost of your chosen trimmings.
What are you finding particularly popular in the world of weddings right now?
Decorating everything from the bouquet to the wedding venue with pom-poms and tassels is very popular at the moment.
Any unusual requests?
Nothing is unusual at V V Rouleaux! We love it when a customer comes to us with a vision that’s completely different to the norm.
Can you tell us about some of the fun or elaborate weddings – or other projects – you’ve been involved with recently?
We recently took 10 of our team to India for two weeks to decorate wedding invitations and gift boxes. We then came back to the UK to refuel, before heading out again for another two weeks to decorate the wedding venue and bride’s presents, some of which were filled with rubies, diamonds and gold!
What would be the dream brief for a wedding?
I love it when we’re asked to decorate the invitations, the church, the venue and bridal party – the whole shebang! A bespoke ribbon designed especially for you and used on the invitations, bridal bouquet and napkins, our handmade petal garlands adorning the venue, and a gifted silk flower for each of the ladies attending are lovely ideas.
What has been the most memorable V V Rouleaux moment to date?
Some time ago, I decorated Hampton Court Palace for the Royal Wedding of Lord Frederick Windsor to Sophie Winkleman. Another memorable moment was when Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge personally attended our London shop, looking for ribbon for her bouquet and bridesmaids waists. Pure silk was her ribbon of choice.
Any top tips for brides-to-be?
You don’t have to be matchy-matchy with a theme throughout. Slightly mismatched often looks much better. Why not have the church and venue colours slightly different from the bride and bridesmaids?
If you were getting married soon, and had free reign in the shop, what sort of things would you be making a beeline for?
Hand-painted silk and velvet roses, picot edge satin ribbon and Lady Amherst feathers are just gorgeous!
