You’ve found a dress for your wedding abroad, but what about your accessories? Traditional tiaras won’t work here – think real flowers, boho headbands and foot jewellery, as Sangeeta from Olivier Laudus explains…
Did you know that Olivier and I had a destination wedding ourselves, 12 years ago at Couples Resort in Jamaica? Weddings abroad will always have a special place in our hearts for that reason, and we love helping destination brides choose their perfect accessories for a celebration in the sun.
Traditional bridal accessories won’t work here. You need your whole look to complement the location in which you’re getting married – lace dresses, a heavy tiara and so on are big no-nos for a wedding abroad. Here’s how we would style a destination bride when it comes to her accessories…
Beautiful blooms
Real flowers look beautiful for a tropical wedding, but if don’t want to leave it to chance for when you get there, taking a faux flower clip is a good idea, but better to invest and buy a good quality one which looks like a real rather than plastic.
Think on your feet
You can still get those gorgeous wedding shoes you have been coveting for weeks, but as feet tend to swell in the heat, satin stilettos may not be that comfortable. Sandals or peep toes are a good choice for the sand or how about some pretty foot jewellery for something different?
Location, location
A subtle nod to the setting is also a nice touch, think freshwater (or keshi pearls which have a gorgeous lustre and really pick up the light). I also like the idea of playing with nautical themes – a starfish or dolphin pendant perhaps?
Hint of sparkle
If you want some glitz, I think small combs or pins work well for beach weddings – just a hint of sparkle without looking out of place with the informal setting. Or how about making a statement with chandelier earrings and curls?
Heavenly headbands
The Grecian/Bohemian look is very on-trend and fantastic for destination weddings – so think free-flowing curls and a gorgeous bejewelled forehead band with lots of bangles.
