Ten years ago nobody had even heard of apps, but now we’re wondering how we ever lived without them!

Nowadays there’s an app to help with you with everything from booking train tickets to doing your weekly supermarket shop, so of course it was only a matter of time before the wedding planning community hopped on board! Here are some of our favourites here at Wedding Ideas

Your very own wedding website

First off we’d like to tell you about Appy Couple, which can help you design your very own stylish wedding app and website.

You can choose from a range of gorgeous, professional designs that will carry through from a smartphone or tablet app to a full-blown webpage, and then get cracking on setting up your own wedding website!

You decide what you want to put on your site, and you can set up an online noticeboard with all the practical information for your guests – like where the wedding is, how to get there, where to stay, and how to RSVP.

Send emails to your guests and give them the special code to unlock the guestroom part of your wedding website or app – that way, you can keep guests up to date with your planning, share photographs and shopping trips, collect their RSVPs to check your numbers, or update your Facebook page with the details. We think a particularly useful feature is the ability to link your gift lists with Appy Couple, no matter whether you have one or several in different shops.

Pre-made designs with Appy Couple are priced at $28 (that’s £17).

“Where shall I put …?”

Wondering how to organise your seating plan? Who to put next to whom? It all becomes a lot easier with AllSeated, which is a free site that lets you organise your guest list, seating plan and floor plan. Move people around tables, chop and change until you’re happy that you’ve got the perfect set up.

You can even get a perfect scale image of your actual venue room to give you a better idea of how everything is going to look, whether you’re using square, round or oval style tables. Best of all AllSeated is free, so give it a try – you’ve got nothing to lose!

Say it with flowers

One of the great things about apps is that you can plan your wedding when you’re on the move. If you’ve got a florist appointment coming up, we recommend the Wedding Flowers Moodboard app – which does exactly what it says on the tin!

You can use the library photos included on the app or upload your own photographs to help you choose the shape and style of your bouquet and see which flowers will be in season. That way, you can just show the moodboard to your florist and they’ll instantly have a much clearer idea of what you want. We think this is a great app to have if you commute to and from work – it’s definitely something to liven up your bus or train journey!

Eyes on your budget

Going over budget when you’re planning your wedding is so easy to do, but we really recommend that you stick to it as much as possible to avoid starting married life on the wrong financial foot.

Keeping an eye on your finances and what you’ve spent (and what you have left to spend) becomes a lot more straightforward with the Wedding Budget app. Start by putting in the date of your wedding and how much you have to spend, then begin subtracting the amounts you spend on the dress, stationery, transport, photography etc as you go along. The app will keep a running total of what’s left for you and you can also create pie-charts showing what areas are responsible for taking up the largest chunk of your money – you may find getting that a visual reminder is very handy in helping you keep things in perspective.

Seeing that your flowers are taking up a very large chunk of the pie may make you realise that this is an area you need to cut costs in, by buying more seasonal flowers for example. In other areas you may realise that you budgeted more but in actual fact have spent very little – maybe you got a discount or bought something in the sales.

Obviously because this is an app you can carry it around with you wherever you go, so just type in the amounts you’re spending as you go along. The Wedding Budget app is free – and could save you hundreds of pounds!

Have you already started using apps to help you plan your wedding day? If so, why not start a discussion on our Forum about how apps have helped you? Share the love with other brides to be!
