Jess & Martin

We went for a boat trip and walk up Ashness Bridge in the Lake District when Martin surprised me by getting down on one knee with a big smile and a gorgeous ring in his hand. He got a bottle of Champagne out of his bag and we sat sipping Champagne in the rain – it was perfect.

My ivory silk organza ‘Anouk’ Watters gown came from Agape Bridal Boutique in Bowdon, Cheshire and featured a sweetheart neckline. It was a ball gown style with a draped bodice, waist appliqué detailing and a sweeping train. I loved the simplicity of it and felt like a princess!

My hairpiece came from Laura Donovan Bridal Accessories. Laura matched it to the appliqué detailing on my dress, creating a lace motif with pearl embellishments. My sister gifted me a stunning sparkly silver pair of Jimmy Choos and a Pandora ring, and Martin sent me a beautiful pearl necklace on the morning of the wedding. I paired these with an understated simple veil and pearl earrings. It was lovely to be able to wear my grandma’s bracelet on the day, too.

Martin wore a kilt made in his family clan’s tartan by Freedmans of Stockport. He was gorgeous and smiling when I saw him at the end of the aisle and he looks really good in a kilt.

I had seven bridesmaids! We chose Dessy midnight blue gowns and found them in Celebration Village, Manchester. They all wore pearls and had gypsy grass flowers in their hair.

Joe Petrillo is both a really good friend and hairdresser, so he did our hair for the wedding. Natalie Robinson MUA used MAC makeup for me – it stayed in place all day and kept the shine off brilliantly.

We had an old white convertible VW Beetle for our wedding car. One of my best memories is sitting in the car with Martin just after the ceremony, sipping Champagne and chatting away.

Vanilla in All Seasons provided our fantastically fun table buffet. Seafood starters, pork belly, chicken and steak dishes for the main and build-your-own sundae desserts were served to the tables for people to enjoy what they liked the best. They also provided our hog roast in the evening – the food was amazing!

We chose a vintage theme for our wedding and were lucky that the venue allowed us to do what we wanted while also offering advice on what had worked well previously.

Martin’s grandma kindly made hundreds of metres of bunting for us, which was a big feature at the reception. We also had lots of flowers in vintage-style vases inside and blooms tucked into beer bottles hanging outside. Our place names were luggage tags and each table had a chalkboard with a Lake District lake on it. The décor was a real family effort.

Fishers in Macclesfield provided all the flowers. They were beautiful. We chose a huge tower of cupcakes with a single-tier cake on the top. The cake maker replicated our engagement scene in icing on the cake. It looked amazing and was a lovely touch.

Martin’s brother’s band, The Grizzlys, played to begin with followed by Ginger and the Ninjas from Macclesfield who carried on the party. My twin sister even surprised me by learning and singing a Dolly Parton song – Dolly is our favourite!

‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson was the perfect song for us to sway to. Martin’s brother’s band played it which made it even more special.

We honeymooned in California and Hawaii, spending a few days beachside in San Clemente before flying on to Maui for two weeks! We swam with turtles, snorkelled in an old volcanic crater, watched the sunrise from a volcano top and soaked up the sun on the beach.
