Ella and Emily chose Thornton Manor as their wedding venue, and it created the perfect backdrop for their dream wedding day!
They first met in a bar in Manchester, and Ella and Emily hit it off from then! They had no awkward silences, as Ella couldn’t stop talking, but it went well as Emily is such a good listener and treated her like a princess. The proposal came the day before Ella’s 22nd birthday, Emily wrote ‘will you marry me?’ on a cake – Ella’s favourite food, and she of course said yes. They had been talking about getting married before, but Ella hadn’t expected such a gorgeous ring!
Ella found her dress in Butterfly Bridal in Lancaster, Emily’s hometown – the lace beaded sweetheart bodice Justin Alexander dress was perfect for the ceremony and reception! But then she had a second dress made by a dressmaker that was knee-length – perfect for dancing in. Ella says she felt like an “absolute princess, I loved the full skirt and ballgown style.” She wore flats as they didn’t want there to be a huge height difference on the big day, and accessories were matching watches given to both of them by Ella’s grandparents.
Emily wore number one army mess dress and looked amazing, she had a white rose buttonhole to stand out from everyone else wearing a dusky pink one! Ella had five adult bridesmaids, her two sister in laws Aimee and Georgia, two best friends from school Alex and Katie, and their good friend from the army Heather. The dresses came from an online American store called For Her and For Him, and were all custom made and dyed – the combination of the lace top and chiffon skirt work beautifully in this blush pink colour.
They had a civil ceremony – they are both Christians but unfortunately at the time same sex couples weren’t allowed to marry in CofE churches. They kept the ceremony short and sweet, exchanging vows that had both the traditional wording and some they had written themselves. Ella walked down the aisle with her dad to James Morrison’s You Make It Real For Me, which she says was a really “surreal moment.”
The theme was military and blush pink, the venue was a beautiful private manor house with gorgeous architecture! They even had a mini party the night before with everyone as they had exclusive use of the entire grounds! They didn’t want to overwhelm the house with loads of décor, but they did have a dessert table with a three tier pink cake surrounded by cupcakes. Favours were traditional sugared almonds in cute boxes and their first dance was to Ed Sheeran’s Photograph.
