Super cute couple, Alexa and Liam, chose a shabby chic theme for their wedding day, with a hint of literary decor to create a gorgeous, romantic celebration…
How they met
Liam had to ask Alexa out three times before she finally agreed to go on a date with him. “We were young at the time but he turned out to be an amazing catch!” says Alexa. For their first date the couple opted for dinner and a film and four years later Liam popped the question in the couple’s home on Christmas morning. After the present giving Liam told her she still had one left and produced an engagement ring. “I said yes straight away! It was a very intimate moment and meant a lot to us because it was in our first home,” smiles Alexa.
The bride’s outfit
The beautiful bride tried on only four dresses before finding ‘the one’ for her. “I’d lost a lot of weight for the wedding and was still a little self conscious. In the first four dresses I felt ridiculous!” Alexa explains. Just as she was about to give up one of her maids of honour pulled the dress off the rail. “I tried it on and just knew it was ‘the one’ straight away. I’m devastated I won’t get to wear it again!” Alexa says. She accessorised with Rainbow Club heels, which she found online and a veil she instantly fell in love with while hunting in charity shops for table pieces.
The groom’s outfit
Liam and his groomsmen hired suits from local store HRH Holmes & Sons, and accessorised
with stylish peach cravats and personalised cufflinks.
The bridesmaids
Alexa’s four beautiful bridesmaids all wore knee-length dresses in a pretty champagne colour from Tesco. Alexa also bought her best girls chic faux fur boleros from Boohoo to keep them warm in case of bad weather.
The ceremony
Alexa and Liam had their wedding in the church where Liam’s dad was buried. “We made a wreath together and Liam laid it on his grave just before the ceremony took place,” Alexa explains.
The reception
The guests were treated to a relaxed BBQ with homemade burgers and marinated pork belly. “Liam is the king of puddings, so we had a dessert table with chocolate gâteau, banoffee pie and lemon tart,” says Alexa. The speeches were personal and left everyone feeling emotional. “Best man Dan was really nervous but delivered an extremely funny and endearing speech,” smiles Alexa. “He even ended it with recorded messages from our friends and family!”
The details
With a shabby chic theme and added literary touches, the bride and groom created many of their own decorations. “We decorated the tables with flowers and books which reflected our personalities, interests or relationship,” Alexa remembers. The thrifty couple also added a wooden ladder for a table plan, their parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos as table numbers and opted for glass jars filled with Loveheart sweets as their wedding favours.
The honeymoon
The couple spent four days in gorgeous Rome visiting historic sites such as The Vatican and The Sistine Chapel.
