So you’ve decided to have a dazzling winter wedding. Congratulations! Getting hitched in the colder months offers you some really special ways to experiment with different colours and styles. Forget pastels, winter means DRAMA! Scarlets, burgundies, deep greens, midnight blues, sparkle and gleaming tones – and Dessy has them all…

When it comes to your bridesmaids, you obviously need to think about the potential chill factor. Shivering maids are so not a good look – so wrap your girls in cosy, colour co-ordinating, soft pashminas. Hey, they’ll even make the perfect bridesmaid gift, too, and be useful after the wedding!

You might also think about dress length. If you’re having an evening wedding, (remember you can get married up until 6pm in England now), then why not dress your girls in elegant, long bridesmaid frocks? Again, a handy wardrobe addition for the future for every woman. Depending on the style of your wedding day, and the look you’re going for, here are seven colour trends to be thinking about…

Trend 1: Midnight blue is the new black

If you find black a bit sombre, then kit out your bridesmaids in midnight blue. It’s a sophisticated shade that’s a little bit different and very glamorous. This strapless gown in a midnight blue matte satin would look stunning – your bridesmaids will love you for making this choice. Accessorise with pearl drop earrings, a clutch bag and some great heels.

Trend 2: Eye-catching reds

Bright winter berries adorn the winter hedgerows, so take a tip from Nature and dress your girls in a bright scarlet dress. Dessy’s Flame coloured frocks come in a variety of long and short styles, and will be eye-catching in all the right ways. The colour is very forgiving, suiting both blondes and those with darker hair and complexions, and will look stunning in the evening as well as brightening up a dark, winter afternoon. This flame-coloured duchesse satin frock is just made for dancing the night away!

Trend 3: Winter ombres

Mismatched bridesmaid dresses allow you the option to choose a dress to suit each girl perfectly – you can play around with colours, too. Graduated different shades of the same colour base give you a lot of opportunity. So say you’re going for shades of purples and pinks, choose from the lighter end of the spectrum through to the darkest for the best effect, and let your maids choose the hue they’re happiest wearing. Or you could choose greens or shades of grey, through to black – the list is almost endless!

Trend 4: Winter whites

Make like Kate Middleton and dress your maids in white or cream. You can add an accent colour with their shoes, or keep it traditional. White, ivory or cream suits most complexions and your girls would dazzle as they walk behind you up the aisle. Think rich fabrics to get that winter mood – satins, silks and lace. If you want to add colour contrast, you could always choose a contrasting sash or some sparkly heels.

Trend 5: Snowy sparkles

If you’re lucky enough to have a snowy wedding, then you’ll have some great photographs of your special day. Diamanté and dazzle looks wonderful against a winter backdrop, so think about choosing dresses with sparkling details on the shoulders and at the waist. Then maybe add diamanté hair clips or a hairband to your maids’ hair. Oh, and an embellished clutch bag would also look amazing, and that is another useful bridesmaid gift idea, too!

Trend 6: Coloured lace

The Duchess of Cambridge sparked for a real trend for lace with her Alexander McQueen gown. Lace looks beautiful in winter and it doesn’t have to be in cream or white either – Dessy offers bridesmaid dresses with contrasting lace bodices to offset the richness of the skirt fabric. Which colour will you choose?

Trend 7: Holly and ivy

You don’t have to dress your maids all in the same colour. Choose two different shades and dress your girls in pairs, one in a deep green, one in a berry red. And, of course, you don’t have to choose the same style frock, either – particularly when you look at all the different necklines Dessy offers, you won’t know which one to choose! Reds and deep greens have a cosiness to them – and you could contrast a green pashmina with a red gown, and a red with a green gown. Or contrast the shoes!
