Having a DIY wedding is hot news for 2012, with country garden and vintage themes lending themselves perfectly to this handmade look.
This is great news for brides who love arts and crafts or those on a budget, because they can add a personal touch for little cost. But what if you’re not a DIY type of girl? That’s ok, the shabby chic look is everywhere right now and it’s easy to purchase items that have that homemade look without the effort! One of our favourite websites for this is folksy.com. Gorgeous details, lovingly made by crafty types, that you can order online. What could be better?! They’ve now started listing items by themes to make it even easier to search for beautiful details for your big day, with the latest addition being ‘ handcrafted weddings’. One of my favourite items right now is the button or brooch bouquet which is a gorgeous way to add a vintage, handmade look to any wedding. There are so many fantastic sellers on Folksy who make these items, so check them out online today.
DIY details
So many of our forum brides are making there own details at the moment, and I must admit I have actually attempted a few crafting ventures for my own big day in April! The first, being our sweetie jar favours as pictured here. Not the most technical of tasks, but nevertheless a great way to add a rustic touch. I bought the jars from eBay (£30 for 110 jars!), the raffia from a garden centre, the material from a local fabric shop and I made the tags by printing card and sticking it onto a ready-made label. Finally I filled the jars with yummy mini eggs – these work well with my colour scheme, and because we’re tying the knot at Easter, they seemed the most appropriate pressies! I have also attempted to create menus for our tables and a handmade cards sign for our birdcage post box – all still works in progress!
