How did the proposal happen?
We got engaged a few months after I qualified as a solicitor. James proposed on his birthday with a bunch of flowers. He said I was the only present he wanted and asked me to marry him!

The dress
I found my gown in Confetti and Lace, Leeds. It was a Pronovias gown with a fishtail design, sweetheart neckline and embellished white feathers. The bodice was made from tulle with gorgeous oral lace. I’d always known I wanted a fishtail dress and I fell in love with it the moment I tried it on!
The Accessories
My sister, Emma gifted me my wedding tiara with silver and pearl details. I wore my mum’s pearl necklace and Jimmy Choo shoes.
The Groom
James hired his suit from Yorkshire Menswear in Leeds. It was a slim fit navy suit with a navy waistcoat and a mint green tie. James rarely wears a suit and I remember thinking he looked very handsome and smart.
The Bridesmaids
I had five bridesmaids and struggled to find the right shade of mint green for their dresses. Eventually I fell in love with dresses from Coast that were floor-length with straps and a detailed sash across the middle.
What music did you play during the ceremony?
My step dad played ‘Wonderful Tonight’ by Eric Clapton on the guitar while one of my bridesmaids sang as I walked down the aisle. As we signed the register my friend sang Adele’s ‘To Make You Feel My Love’ and we walked out to ‘Happy’ by Pharell.
What was the best part of the ceremony?
Getting to see the flowers for the first time was amazing, as was walking down the aisle and seeing James waiting for me! My mum walked with me as my father sadly passed away when I was 13. I had a charm on my bouquet with a photo of my dad in it.
What did you have for your wedding breakfast?
We had fishcakes to start followed by carve-at-the-table beef with all the trimmings and a raspberry crème brulee with shortbread. The carving went down really well with each table being given an apron and knife–it was a great ice breaker.

Inspiration
Our wedding had a pastel theme and I wanted lots of flowers, colour and ribbons.
Reception Decoration
The entrance to the barn had bay trees with ribbons to match the bridesmaid’s bouquets and two hydrangea planters wrapped in hessian. We also had a giant flower heart placed in front of where we said our vows, with candles and rose petals in the windows. Ambience Venue Styling provided lace bows for the chairs and lanterns along the aisle. We had an amazing spray of flowers on the ceremony table. The drinks reception was outside on the lawn with Bucks Fizz and canapés. There were hay bales for guests to sit on and lanterns hanging on the garden furniture. In the marquee reception we had 6ft DANCE letters, a black and white chequered dance floor, pompoms and bunting.
The Flowers
Ivy Florist in Pudsey provided our buttonholes, bridesmaid bouquets of gypsophila and pastel ribbons, floral heart, table centrepieces and my bouquet which was a mixture of pastel blooms. I cut out pictures from Wedding Ideas to show my florist what I wanted.
The Cake
Our cake table had cake pops, macarons and a three-tiered cake. The cake was mint green with ivory lace detail from Just Darling Cakes in Huddersfield and had tiers of carrot cake, lemon drizzle and gluten-free chocolate.
The Entertainment
My mum and I surprised my new husband and all our guests with ‘Faces of Disco’ who appeared in the semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent! It was very entertaining. We also had a photobooth and a DJ.
The First Dance
We chose John Legend’s ‘All of Me’. A friend of ours recommended it to us and we both loved it. It was lovely to keep hearing it on the radio after the wedding.
The Honeymoon
We wanted a relaxing honeymoon so we stayed in a 5-star hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia. While we were there we took advantage of the spa, sea kayaking, safari buggies
and parasailing. We also hired a car to visit Montenegro and spent time cycling.
