How they met
Maxine and Huw met while socialising in Bridgend. “Huw proposed on my 30th birthday,” says Maxine.
The bride’s real wedding outfit
Maxine found her dream dress in Cardiff and really enjoyed her bridal boutique experience. “I bought my Ellis Bridals dress at Bridal Heaven,” she says.
“The assistants were lovely – it was so much fun.”
Maxine accessorised her strapless, silk gown with a veil, also from Bridal Heaven, and shoes from Next.

Huw looked dashing and dapper in a classic morning suit from Oxford House, Pontycymmer.
The bridesmaids
Maxine had three bridesmaids for her real wedding – two friends who shone in gold gowns from Debenhams and a cute flowergirl in a pale gold dress from BHS.
Big day details
“We wanted something simple and elegant,” says Maxine and they certainly succeeded, with a classy February event featuring colour splashes of gold, red and orange. A selection of carnations, gerberas and roses from Love Flowers were used in Maxine’s bouquet and at the reception, with tall gerberas as a sophisticated table centre.
The ceremony
At St Mary’s Hotel, the real wedding ceremony included classic vows and a poem read by Maxine’s sister. Guests then moved on to the reception for soup, followed by a traditional roast dinner.
The cake
A combination of fruit and chocolate layers decorated with orange gerberas, made by Kay Richards. “We served the chocolate layer as dessert then gave slices of the fruitcake to guests in small boxes,” Maxine says.
The entertainment
The wedding disco kicked off with ‘Ten Story Love Song’ by the Stone Roses, the couple’s first dance.
Money saver
“You don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great wedding,” says Maxine, who spent around £6,000 in total on her dream day. “Look for bargains and do your homework! If you find something you love, shop around for a quote you can afford.
