Katharine and William had their real wedding at St Mary’s Church, Callington, Cornwall in October 2008.
About the couple
“We met through a mutual friend in July 2006,” says Katharine. “The friend held a dinner party to set us up! We got on so well that we exchanged numbers that evening.” William proposed in February last year on Woolacombe Beach, Devon.
The proposal
Ken suprised Clare with a New York holiday and proposed after a romantic day skating in Central Park.
The bride’s real wedding outfit
“I tried on hundreds of wedding dresses but I decided to buy everything from Windsor and Eton Brides.” Her Angelina Faccenda silk, strapless gown included crystal beading on the bodice. And accessories? “I wore my grandmother’s pearl earrings and a brooch from William’s family”.
“The church flowers were arranged by the parish ladies – it was lovely to get the community involved!”
The groom’s real wedding outfit
“The church flowers were arranged by the parish “William wore his own morning suit, although he did buy a new waistcoat and trousers from Pakeman Catto and Carter“.
The bridesmaids
“Laid-back bride Katharine let her two bridesmaids chose their own gowns. “They wanted simple, elegant dresses that they could wear again, so they chose three-quarter – length outfits from Glamorous Gowns, who came to the house one evening with tonnes of designer dresses! It was so much easier to fit in with our busy schedules, plus it saved trawling around the shops.” The accessories included simple pearl jewellery and floral hair accessories.
Big day details
Katharine and William’s guests at the real wedding enjoyed a traditional ceremony in St Mary’s Church, Callington. “It was a very relaxed atmosphere throughout. There were 185 guests plus small children and lots of babies!” William’s sister created gorgeous green and cream floral flourishes for the bridal party and reception tables.
“It was fantastic to plan the wedding ourselves. It meant the day was exactly how we wanted it to be”
The reception
The couple hired a marquee for their real wedding in the grounds of Pentillie Castle near St Mellion, Cornwall. The sumptuous wedding breakfast included a hog roast, followed by a decadent chocolate roulade served with summer berries. Cheese and biscuits were served with coffee. “We bought the cheese to represent our home counties – Lancashire cheese and Cornish Brie”.
The cake
Another talented family member, William’s sister, made the three – tier cake. “It was delicious!” Katharine says. “The bottom two tiers were used for pudding and the top tier was a traditional fruitcake, which has been saved for a potential christening!”.
Special moment
“Our first dance was to Barry White’s You’re my first, my last, my everything – we only decided the day before the wedding!
The honeymoon
“We went to Kenya and loved every moment of it! A balloon ride over the Maasai Mara was the highlight”.
