Katie and ben had their real wedding at Durker Roods Hotel, Huddersfield in July 2006.
How they met
Katie and Ben met at school. After many years as friends they finally became a couple at the end of university.
The proposal
After they had finished a romantic meal in a restaurant in Barcelona the subject of weddings came up. Ben told Katie that he wanted to get married in a world cup year and asked if 2006 would be OK!
The bride’s real wedding outfit
Katie bought her beautiful A-line princess dress from Berketex brides, Sheffield. Made from duchess satin, it had delicate beading on the bodice following down in an asymmetrical pattern at the front.
Accessories
Katie wore a delicate matching tiara, necklace and bracelet all from Swarovski. Her shoes were from BHS bridal and had similar beading as the dress.
The groom’s real wedding outfit
Ben wore a fantastic lounge suit in petrol blue hired from Moss Bros. He teamed it with a pale pink tie, to tie in with the colour of the flowers.
The bridesmaids
The bridesmaids wore floor-length dusky pink strapless dresses with a pale pink sash around the middle. The sash ran down the back of the dress, producing a lovely mini-train effect.
The flowers
Katie carried a beautiful bouquet of pale pink and cream roses, pink edged lisianthuses and wax flower. The bridesmaids carried hand-tied posies of cream roses with lisianthuses.
Transport
Katie got ready at the venue so did not need a car, but as a special touch her Dad had put car ribbon on the front of his Toyota to take her to the venue on the morning of the wedding.
The cake
The cake was a three tier round sponge cake with dusky pink hearts all around it. It had a firework effect topper, and cream ribbon trailing down the sides.
Reception decor
Tall glass vases filled with lilies and bear grass were put on the tables. They scattered dried rose petals and filled the wine glasses with silver wrapped chocolate coffee beans.
Favours
Katie and Ben gave their guests seed sticks for Forget-me-Not plants. The packet was inscribed with their wedding date and names.
Katie walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D and whilst signing the register they played ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles. For the recessional they chose ‘Hi Ho Silver Lining’.
The real wedding theme
The colour theme was pale pink and cream
Special moments
“My cousin had brought her photo printer with her and, before the evening, nipped off to her room, downloaded some digital prints and put them in a frame. She then put them in the bridal suite for us to find later! It was such a lovely touch. Also, my bridesmaid scattered rose petals all over the bridal suite bed.”
Bride’s tip
“Making our own invitations saved a lot of money and people commented on how pretty they were.”
Groom’s tip
“Memorise your speech and your nerves will thank you!”
The honeymoon
Katie and Ben spent a romantic week in Barcelona before travelling up the coast to Cadaques where they stayed in an apartment for another week.
