Your wedding planning is well on the way but you’ve still got one nagging question – what song should you choose for your first dance? Picking is no easy task – it is a defining moment of your wedding and a decision you’ll live with (and hopefully love!) for the rest of your life, after all. The real weddings we feature are a huge part of Wedding Ideas, so we’ve turned to seven of our real brides and grooms from recent issues for advice and inspiration when it comes to choosing your first dance song.

‘Love Song’ by The Cure
Hatti and James, whose wedding is featured in the latest special issue 164 of Wedding Ideas (on sale on Wednesday!), chose their first dance song because of the meaningful lyrics. Having spent time long distance, the couple were keen to celebrate their marriage with a song that reflected their love story so far. ‘Love Song’ by The Cure was the perfect choice.

‘Heartbeats’ by Jose Gonzalez
Laura and Si tied the knot in a lovely vintage wedding (you can see it in our special issue 164, on sale on Wednesday!) with a truly sentimental first dance choice. When the couple first started dating, Laura gave Si a Jose Gonzalez CD to borrow. Needless to say, the couple shared the same music taste, so it just had to be a Jose Gonzalez song for their first dance as husband and wife.

‘Kiss Me’ by Ed Sheeran
Becky and Liam from issue 163 decided upon an Ed Sheeran song for their moment on the dance floor. Renowned for his romantic lyrics, it’s easy to see why Ed Sheeran is such a popular choice. They settled on the song ‘Kiss Me’ after hearing it in the car together.

‘Fly Me To The Moon’ by Frank Sinatra
Hollie and Peter had what every couple does at some point in their relationship – the ‘if we ever get married…’ conversation. For this happy couple, their ‘if we ever get married’ first dance song became their reality, choosing the classic ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ by Frank Sinatra. Check out their stunning Somerset wedding in issue 163!

‘Iris’ by Goo Goo Dolls
You might remember our lovely cover couple from issue 162, Emma and Jake. For their first dance, they opted for a song that wasn’t too soppy but still had all the sentiment a romantic dance demands. ‘Iris’ by Goo Goo Dolls was the perfect answer, ticking all the boxes and already being a favourite with the couple!

‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ by Diana Ross
Not wanting to be alone on the dance floor for more than one song and keen to get their guests up and dancing, Annabelle and James from issue 161 chose an upbeat number for their first dance. It was a real crowd-pleaser and had the dance floor packed.

‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life’ by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes
There’s nothing wrong with sticking to what you love for your wedding day – in fact, it’s something you should definitely be doing! Issue 161’s Laura and James did exactly that, choosing one of their favourite songs for an emotional and romantic first dance song choice.
