Rachel & James
LAS VEGAS WEDDING | ESSENCE OF AUSTRALIA DRESS | WHITE ROSES | BLACK CAKE | CHAPEL OF THE FLOWERS
After James surprised Rachel with a proposal at the top of the Empire State Building during a holiday to New York, it was only fitting that they would continue their US love affair by choosing a Las Vegas wedding!
Rachel’s stunning Essence of Australia wedding gown featured a lace bodice embellished with Swarovski crystals, a corset back and mermaid skirt made from tulle. “When I first tried dresses on, I was four stone heavier. I had originally decided on a different dress which was an A line style but when I went back to order it the consultant persuaded me to try on some different styles before I made my mind up. When I tried my dress on I as so overwhelmed, I fell in love with it there and then. Me, my mum, and my bridesmaid were all close to tears.”
The bride also chose to add straps to her dress so she kept her accessories simple, adding Swarovski earrings and bangle. “I bought Wedding Ideas magazine religiously every month during the year leading up to the wedding and I bought my Paradox Pink Cupcake Ivory Lace Vintage wedding shoes having seen them in there.”
James looked suitably suave in a black tuxedo with a skinny black tie sourced from Next. “I thought he looked amazing! I almost cried,” gushes Rachel.
Their Las Vegas wedding party included 23 people, so Rachel chose to have one bridesmaid, her friend Charlotte. She wore a black cocktail dress from Coast paired with heeled strappy sandals from Zara.
“I got my makeup done at Encore in the Wynn Hotel Salon. They used airbrush makeup that lasted all day and night. At first I felt that my makeup looked quite heavy compared to how I normally wear it but my makeup artist advised me that it would not look so in the photographs. She was so right, my makeup looked flawless and I would recommend airbrush makeup any day!”
Rachel’s dad walked her down the aisle at the couple’s civil ceremony held at Chapel of the Flowers, who also provided the white roses for the bouquets and buttonholes. “Our best memory was the amazing minister, Al. We had never met him before but he made our wedding feel so special with his lovely words. He was funny and warm and reduced a couple of our guests to happy tears.”
For their Las Vegas wedding reception, the couple and their wedding party visited The Cheesecake Factory for a delicious meal from their huge menu. Rachel’s dad gave a beautiful speech about the couple and their lovely family and friends who had come so far to celebrate with them. “It was short and sweet but really lovely,” smiles Rachel.
Back in the UK, the newlyweds welcomed guests to a reception at The Coniston Hotel, Sittingbourne that naturally had an American theme. Tables were filled with popcorn alongside an American buffet. There was a DJ, live guitar from friend Harry, and a photo booth with a Vegas green screen backdrop to keep guests entertained.
Their cake was equally dramatic. “It had black icing and was decorated with brightly coloured icing streamers. It’s a wedding cake people will always remember because it was so different.” The wedding favours were donations to Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK, both charities are close to the couple’s hearts.
James and Rachel spent their honeymoon in Las Vegas and San Francisco, enjoying a helicopter ride and champagne picnic over the Grand Canyon, zip lining, attending an Encore Beach Club pool party and visiting the Golden Gate Bridge.
