After 16 years and two children together, Philippa and Matt’s gorgeous summer wedding was a family affair, with a killer pair of Louboutin heels, (sorry, they couldn’t go unmentioned)!
How they met
Philippa and Matt met way back in the 1990s. “I thought Matt was very nice, but a bit young for me,” Philippa laughs. “It took him a few years to persuade me to go out with him, but he never gave up.”
The proposal
Matt asked Philippa to marry him at his own 40th birthday party. “He asked me in front of our children, Miles and Darcy, and all our friends and family – I think it was insurance against me saying no!” says Philippa. “I was very surprised – I thought it would never happen.”
The bride’s outfit
Philippa first saw her Ian Stuart gown online. “It was the first one I saw, and I kept going back to it,” Philippa explains. The ivory Thai silk dress was a fitted, strapless style with delicate beading that caught the light and buttons right the way down to the bottom of the train. Philippa added a bespoke headpiece made of vintage pearls and crystals, and nude peep-toe Christian Louboutin shoes for a touch of glamour.
The groom’s outfit
Matt wore grey silk tails with a pale pink cravat from Slaters, teamed with Paul Smith shoes.
The bridesmaids
Philippa chose just one very special bridesmaid – her daughter Darcy. “She wanted her dress to match mine, so we had one made by a local seamstress to Darcy’s design,” Philippa explains. “She loved the process, and what made it extra special was that the seamstress used the jacket that came with my dress as the material for the bodice, so it matched exactly.”
The ceremony
The couple were married in a church ceremony that featured a tear-jerking poem composed and read by their daughter.
The reception
Mini wedding planner Darcy chose a pink colour scheme for her parents’ classic English Summer wedding. “We decorated with paper pom poms, antique vases and lanterns with candles, and our table centres were tall siulver vases filled with different types of roses in graduating shades of pink,” Philippa says. The couple’s children designed and drew the wedding stationery, and their 10-year-old son made a best man’s speech of his own.
The honeymoon
The couple enjoyed complete relaxation on the Caribbean island of Anguilla.
