Research by leading wedding authority, Country House Wedding Venues found that the average booking time between saying yes and committing to the perfect venue is just six weeks. This means that the week following Valentine’s Day (this week!) is fast becoming known as ‘Wedding-Geddon’, with businesses across the industry inundated with enquiries.

Not only did UK Google searches for ‘engagement rings‘ hit a high for the year last weekend, with search levels 45% higher than usual, but Country House Wedding Venues’ survey of over 10,000 British brides and brides-to-be has revealed that almost 6% of brides get engaged on Valentine’s – equating to more than 15,603 future fiancé(e)s.

In what is believed to be the biggest bridal survey ever conducted, over 10,000 brides were asked to reveal the intricate details of their big day; from where they met, through to their engagement and their most intimate wedding secrets – including, insight into what it is that makes a happy marriage.

The survey also revealed that public proposals were losing their appeal, with 77.87% of proposals taking place privately. Additionally, it appears people are finding it increasingly difficult to keep the proposal a surprise, as one in ten (10.41%) of British brides admit they were not surprised by the proposal, and more than one in four (28.23%) opted to choose their engagement ring themselves.

Commenting on the predicted influx of proposals, Diana Hastie, founder of Country House Wedding Venues, says: “It’s an exciting thought that there are 15,000 newly engaged couples beginning their wedding journeys this week.

Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year, so we’re not at all surpirsed that so many people are planning to ask the person they love the most important question you can ask, and with most brides-to-be selecting their perfect venue within the first six weeks, the race is officially on for future brides to start the wedding planning process and secure their first-choice location.
