We love this chic and classy city wedding in the centre of Manchester – the midnight blue theme is super sophisticated.
The proposal
Nichola had a hunch that Robert would propose in New York on the fifth anniversary of them getting together. “When it didn’t happen, I assumed he wasn’t going to ask,” she recalls. “But then, the following morning, I got out of bed in our hotel room, and there he was, down on one knee.”
The bride’s outfit
Nichola looked sensational in a figure-hugging Micayla dress with a sweetheart neckline and a fishtail hem. “I was torn between two dresses and really couldn’t decide, so in the end I went for the more expensive one!” she laughs. Nichola’s Jenny Packham shoes, however, were a bargain. “I was prepared to splash out on really special wedding shoes, but after looking in Selfridges and Harrods, I found the perfect pair in the sale at Debenhams,” she says.
The groom’s outfit
Rob and his groomsmen hired their suits from Moss Bros, opting for a traditional grey three-piece suit with tails, navy blue cravats and an ivory waistcoat for the groom.
The bridesmaids
Nichola and her three bridesmaids took a marathon tour of London’s bridal boutiques in search of the perfect dresses. “I knew I didn’t want anything too stiff or formal,” Nichola explains. “The girls were very patient with me!” They finally settled on full-length navy blue dresses from House of Fraser, with jewelled embellishments around the neck and waist.
The ceremony
Nichola and Robert were married at the majestic Manchester Town Hall in the heart of the city. The bride travelled in a vintage Rolls Royce. “That was the only decision I left completely up to Rob!” laughs Nichola. The bride walked down the aisle on the arm of her proud father.
The reception
After the ceremony, the happy couple and their guests continued the party at the luxurious Radisson Edwardian Hotel, which they styled with a chic navy blue and cream colour palette. “We hired a company called Eventures, who made the venue look stunning, with tall centrepieces filled with artificial flowers and floating candles,” says Nichola.
The stylish five-tier cake was created by Flissy Cakes. “We ended up adding an extra tier as the number of guests kept growing,” Nichola adds. A string quartet entertained during the meal, and two-piece band The Wedding Crashers kept everyone on the dancefloor all night long.
The honeymoon
The couple spent two weeks relaxing in all-inclusive luxury on Meeru Island in the Maldives, where they enjoyed snorkelling, scuba diving and blissful spa treats.
