Half of people believe New Year’s Eve is the best day to propose?

New research conducted by vintage jewellery specialists William May has uncovered when the British public would prefer to pop the question over the festive period! Almost half of people in the UK say that the most romantic day to propose is New Year’s Eve…

Nearly a quarter (24%) of people selected Christmas Eve, with the 25th itself coming next in the list with 23% out the vote.

What women want… And what men want

Both men and women agreed on December 31st; 47% of women agreed it was their favourite day with 49% of men stating the same.

However, opinions proved to differ when other days were added to the equation. Women proved to be more favourable towards Christmas Eve. On the other hand, one in four men (25%) selected Christmas Day compared to 19% of women.

Depending on who is doing the proposing, you may need to do some research before making any concrete plans. Consider what your partner prefers and give them a day they’ll truly remember.

Do opinions change with age?

The nation was united across the generations when it came to their favourite proposal day. New Year’s Eve was the top choice throughout all age groups, with as many as 57% showing support in the 55 – 64 year old category.
