
It’s expected that more couples than ever will tie the knot in August, from China to America and back – as the 18th is the most popular date to get married…

But it’s not just America that’s set for a bumper day of wedding celebrations. In China, the number ‘8’ is a lucky number; in Mandarin, ‘8’ sounds similar to the word ‘fa’, which means to make a fortune. The number has connotations with prosperity, success and high social status, making a marriage on 18/8/2018 one of the luckiest.
But if you’ve missed the boat for the 18th August, there’s always the 19th September, making your wedding date 19/9/2019 – nine is another lucky number in Chinese culture so this too could be a popular option.
When deciding on a day, you might want to avoid Friday 13th if you’re particularly superstitious – there’s two in 2019, once in September and one in December. And it’s always worth checking your date doesn’t clash with any major sporting events!
With the combination of such an auspicious date falling on a Saturday and in the peak of the summer season, we reckon it’s got to be the most popular date the world over to tie the knot.
