How they met

Laura and Dan first met when Laura began a new job as a teaching assistant at the school where Dan worked as a PE teacher. “I remember looking across the school hall on my first day and hoping he was single!” laughs Laura.

The proposal

Laura was hoping for a pink bike for Christmas, but got more than she bargained for! “I was jealous that Dan was getting a new bike, so when he told me I wasn’t allowed in the shed, I assumed he was hiding a bike in there for me,” Laura recalls. “On Christmas morning, Dan told me my present was too big to wrap, and made me put a blindfold on. I thought he was going to the shed to bring in my bike, but when he told me to take off my blindfold, he was on one knee in front of me with a ring in his hand.”

The bride’s outfit

Laura looked beautiful in her Rosette Nicolini gown, an A-line style with a corseted bodice, sweetheart neckline and intricate lace design. “It made me feel so pretty and special,” Laura says. “When my mum saw me and started to get emotional, I knew I’d found ‘the one’.”

The groom’s outfit

Dan wore a wool and silk blend tailcoat in mid-grey with a matching waistcoat and dusky pink cravat, hired from Slaters Menswear. He also treated himself to some classy Hugo Boss shoes.

The ceremony

Laura and Dan were married outdoors under a gazebo overlooking Lake Ullswater. “The best moment was seeing Dan’s face when he turned to look at me for the first time,” Laura smiles. “I felt so proud and happy to be marrying him.”

The reception

The couple’s theme incorporated love hearts, light pink and the Lake District, with their tables named after their favourite lake walks. “We hired acoustic guitarist and singer Ben Hicklin for the wedding breakfast and evening reception,” says Laura. “In the end his final set lasted well over an hour, thanks to all the encores.”
