Dry ice and foraged woodland props transformed Katie and Matt’s big day into an autumn wedding wonderland!
How they met
Katie and Matt first met as students over 10 years ago. “Our first date was to see The Wind in the Willows at the Yorkshire Playhouse, followed by a meal at Livebait,” Katie recalls.
Katie was left speechless by Matt’s unexpected proposal. “We had been to a concert, and as we were walking home afterwards, late at night, Matt asked me to marry him in front of York Minster,” says Katie. “I was so shocked, I don’t actually remember saying yes!”
The bride’s outfit
Katie wore Ronald Joyce’s elegant ‘Ivy’ gown from the Victoria Jane collection – a slim-fitting fishtail style made of vintage lace with ornate pearl details. “It made me feel gorgeous,” she smiles. The bride added a statement feather stole and a handmade pearl hair vine by Lu Lu Puchalka, with veil and shoes by Rainbow Club.
The groom’s outfit
Matt chose a truly bespoke wedding outfit. “We designed our own tweed, which was then woven by Marton Mills, and had a suit made by James Michelsberg,” explains Katie.
Katie chose her sister-in-law, niece and best friend as bridesmaids. They looked beautiful in full-length luxe chiffon gowns from Dessy.
Katie and Matt were married in church. “My brother-in-law did an amazing reading – he had memorised it, and performed it with real panache,” Katie says. “We also had the head choir boy from Leeds Philharmonic singing during the interlude.”
The couple pulled out all the stops with their autumn country theme. “We made and foraged most of our decorations from the woods behind our house, and had dry ice flowing over the tables to look like a misty woodland scene,” Katie explains. The best man’s speech also proved a showstopper. “He had organised for a group of singing waiters to interrupt him and sing All You Need is Love,” says Katie. “No one had a clue what was happening at first, then everyone joined in. It was amazing and very emotional.”
The couple reached new heights on their honeymoon to Zanzibar, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on a private tour before relaxing at The Palms Resort.
