A Glastonbury meeting, a Canadian proposal and a South Wales celebration meant that Katherine and Michael’s vintage theme wedding was a Translatlantic one!
How they met
Festival lovers Katherine and Michael met when they pitched their tents next to each other at Glastonbury. “It was a bit too close for comfort as he wouldn’t move his tent to make room for mine!” laughs Katherine. But their ‘cosy’ start led to a date, and the rest is history.
Michael’s proposal may not have been the most romantic, but he still managed to bowl his bride over. “We were in Canada visiting my family,” says Katherine. “Mike asked me to take him to some of the places where I grew up, intending to propose, but we got lost. In the end, he asked me to marry him in our room as we were freshening up for a family barbeque. It wasn’t how he’d planned it, but those few hours where no one else in the world knew were so special.”
The bride’s outfit
Katherine looked sensational in a vintage-style ivory dress with capped sleeves and a V-front and back. “I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect dress online before I started shopping for real,” Katherine explains. “When I tried my dress, it felt different from any other.” The design was perfect for the couple’s vintage wedding.
The groom’s outfit
Michael wore a chic three-piece grey suit from John Lewis, with a white bowtie.
With two maids of honour living in Canada and four bridesmaids in South Wales, co-ordinating dresses was a nightmare. “We eventually decided to buy lots of different dresses online – the maids of honour wore a floral pattern in navy, two bridesmaids wore cream dresses and the other two had dusky rose gowns,” says Katherine.
The couple made their vows in a civil ceremony. “Mike could tell I was nervous, and so whispered a joke to me at the end of the aisle, which made me laugh,” Katherine remembers.
Katherine and Michael chose a vintage reception theme with lots of teapots and teacups, bunting, paper chains and hand-embroidered place cards. “Our favours were maple leaf-shaped Welsh cakes,” adds Katherine.
The couple honeymooned in Sorrento, Italy, where they stayed in a romantic hotel overlooking Mount Vesuvius.
