Oozing old-school glamour, Kate and Justin had a real Oscar-worthy movie-inspired wedding day that even Hollywood would be jealous of!
The proposal
Northern-born Justin took his bride-to-be back to his old stomping ground to pop the question. “He’d always wanted to show me a place on the coast, Dunstanburgh Castle, so off we trekked in the freezing wind and snow with our families,” Kate remembers. “When we got there, he took me ahead up to a beauty spot in the ruined castle, overlooking the sea, and got down on one knee. I was bowled over.”
The bride’s outfit
Kate lost her heart to a vintage-style backless gown by Alfred Angelo, in delicate lace. “It was the first dress I tried on, and I didn’t want to take it off,” Kate smiles. “My mum, aunt and cousin were with me, and they all cried. I tried on another half-dozen dresses just to make sure, but nothing else came close.” Kate’s proud aunt treated her to a beautiful sparkling tiara from Brides by Tina Louise – the perfect finishing touch.
The groom’s outfit
Stylish groom Justin had a clear idea about his wedding look, and, with no input from his bride, settled on a dashing grey bespoke suit from A Suit That Fits, teamed with eye-catching black and white brogues.
The bridesmaids
Kate chose three close friends and her new sister-in-law as bridesmaids, with her three little nieces as flowergirls. “I love contrast, so I picked navy blue dresses for my maids, with a slightly different style for my sister-in-law, who was eight months pregnant,” explains Kate. All four looked simply elegant in their classic dresses from Debenhams.
The ceremony
Kate and Justin were married at St Mary’s Church in Windermere. “Saying our vows was really special and emotional, and I loved it when the vicar pronounced that we were husband and wife,” Kate says. “It had been a long time coming, and it felt amazing to finally be married.”
The reception
The beautiful Beech Hill Hotel, with its art deco interior was the ideal setting for Kate and Justin’s 1930s Hollywood themed reception. “We decorated in a navy blue and silver colour palette, with candelabra dressed with French ruscus and Naomi rose heads, and finished the evening with an amazing fireworks display – a surprise for our guests,” Kate says.
The honeymoon
The loved-up couple stayed in the Lake District after the wedding, walking and sightseeing in this area of natural beauty, before travelling to Sardinia later in the year for a belated sunshine honeymoon.
