JENNY & RORY

Jenny and Rory were set up by his sister in law when they were just a couple of teenagers. “He’s very shy so I remember thinking I was talking far too much,” says Jenny. Rory proposed eight years later as the couple walked along a beach in Bournemouth, “I picked up a bottle on the beach and Rory had written the words ‘Will you marry me?’ on a scroll inside,” says Jenny. “I looked at him and he was holding my engagement ring!”
Jenny’s slim-line satin dress with puddle train was from Dresses of Dreams in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire. Rory wore a light, Summer tweed waistcoat and trousers from Walker Slater in Fulham. Rory’s bow tie was also bought online. “I couldn’t imagine a more perfect outfit on him or for our laid-back Summer wedding,” says Jenny. Ever the savvy internet bride, Jenny’s two bridesmaids Charlie and Emma wore Grecian-style lilac dresses from The Dainty Yard on Etsy.
Nieces Poppy and Willow were flower girls and wore pretty white dresses from Mothercare. The couple had a beautiful civil ceremony at South Farm in Cambridgeshire, with Jenny’s mum walking her down the aisle. “My dad passed away when I was young and my mum has been there through everything – I wanted her to be by my side,” says Jenny. “I thought I’d be nervous but as soon as I saw Rory, it all just fizzled away into happiness.” At the end of the ceremony, guests waved the couple off with celebration flags bought from Not On The High Street and an ice cream bike served yummy toffee popcorn alongside champagne and elder flower cocktails.
The wedding menu consisted of produce that was reared, raised and grown at the farm. “For the mains, there was a choice of lasagne, crispy pork with plum sauce or chard bake – all were delicious,” says Jenny. “Etsy was our best friend for décor,” laughs Jenny. Guests were given personalised sweet bags as favours and tables were named after episodes of one of the couple’s favourite TV shows, Friends.
The brilliant table plan was made by Binky Watson. Jenny collected jars and old pots from car boot sales for their florist, Crazy Daisy in Buntingford, to fill with gorgeous handpicked garden flowers. “Our DJ set an amazing soundtrack,” says Jenny. It was a hot Summer’s day and everybody spent most of it playing garden games until late. “It was honestly the best day of my life – I couldn’t sleep a wink on our wedding night going through it all in my head!” says the bride.
