Amsterdam set the scene for this couple’s engagement, which took place on the water with a pear-shaped, solitaire diamond ring. “It wasn’t at all the kind of ring I was expecting, but I absolutely loved it!” Katherine tells us. “We’d been together for eight years by this point, so although we had discussed getting married, I was past the point of expecting a proposal and it was a lovely surprise.”
This bride found her Allure Bridals wedding gown with ease, visiting just a few boutiques beforehand. “I’d tried on a few dresses so I had an idea of the kind of style I wanted.
“My dress featured a charmeuse slip, lace appliqué overlay and lots of delicate embroidery and crystals, but the best thing about it was how comfortable I felt.”
I’d tried on some dresses that just didn’t make me feel like me, but when I put this one on I felt perfect and I knew Matthew would love it too!” Jenny Packham shoes and a hairpiece from Jo Barnes Vintage added just the right suggestion of sparkle to Katherine’s beautiful bridal style.
“I gifted Matthew his suit from Reiss’s personal tailoring service as an engagement present. He then sourced his tie and pocket square from Charles Tyrwhitt. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look so nervous as when I first saw him at the end of the aisle, but he looked incredibly handsome and luckily happy to see me!”
Katherine’s three bridesmaids were brilliant during the planning and threw the hen do to top all others, so it’s only fair that they had stunning dresses for the big day too.
“I’ve always loved the look of multi-way dresses and I just knew my girls would look fabulous in them.”
I found silvery grey ones that they all loved and, as they came in under budget, I could spend more on their shoes, accessories and hair, too!” Enter Jo from LoveHair, who styled their locks beautifully.

“I absolutely loved walking down the aisle with my father towards Matt, surrounded by the smiling faces of our closest family and friends. ‘The One’ by Kodaline was playing and it was such an exciting moment when we were announced as husband and wife!” After the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed poached salmon, a trio of pork with crushed potatoes and apple sauce, and an indulgent salted caramel custard tart for their wedding breakfast.
Katherine and Matthew approached their wedding planning with an attitude guaranteed to bring them the best day ever.
“We didn’t really have a theme, but we did make sure that everything we chose and every decision we made suited us as a couple.”
We wanted a relaxed and fun but also an elegant and special day, and I really feel we achieved that,” smiles the bride.

When it comes to the wedding décor, this couple couldn’t have had a better team of suppliers to support them. “The majority of the credit sits firmly with Kate Avery, our florist, and the Millbridge Court and Kalm Kitchen team. They really did think of everything and brought the vision I had to life. The real weddings in Wedding Ideas gave me so many ideas.
I’d really recommend that once you have your idea you stick to it and keep it in mind with every decision you make. Trying to combine too many styles will stop your overall look from coming together. We did and it worked! So many people commented on how beautiful the oral arrangements looked in particular, which featured David Austin peach roses. We gifted our oral centrepieces to close family at the end of the wedding to take home and enjoy for even longer.”

Kalm Kitchen, the couple’s caterers of choice, not only excelled in creating the wedding breakfast, they also provided the cheese tower wedding cake too.
“We are both huge cheese fans, so it was the perfect choice for us! We served it as part of the evening food and there was so much left we got to enjoy it for days afterwards!”
Once the feasting had finished, guests were kept entertained by a photobooth put together by the couple. They teamed a giant Polaroid frame with props from Katherine’s hen do, and the portable photobooth even ended up on the dance oor at one point! RainDance UK supplied the DJ, who the couple met through a friend’s wedding beforehand.
“For our first dance we wanted a fun, upbeat song with a silly routine rather than a formal slow dance, so we chose David Guetta’s ‘Without You’. We loved every second of performing our fun routine and the reaction from our guests was just completely awesome!”
Where better to continue the celebrations than in Mauritius? Katherine and Matthew booked their exotic honeymoon with Kuoni, opting to stay at two resorts, making Preskil Beach Hotel home for eight nights before moving on for four nights at Maradiva Villas. “We swam with wild dolphins, saw giant tortoises and even had a candlelit dinner at the end of the pier. We filled our honeymoon with lazy days on the beach and by the pool, lots of great food and drink, and a few trips to be pampered at the spa. It was complete and utter bliss.”
When it comes to bringing your big day in on budget, Katherine has a word of advice: “Personally, I wouldn’t cut back on the food and drink for your guests. The day is all about the people you share it with, so keep them well fed.”
