The question has been popped, the answer is ‘yes’ and the plans for your wedding day can begin to take shape…you probably have an idea of how you see your big day panning out (what girl hasn’t?!) and whether you’ve always dreamed of an intimate day with your nearest and dearest, or a huge party with as many guests as your chosen venue can accommodate.

You’ve probably been told several times that your wedding venue search ought to be at the top of your priority list when planning your day and there’s a very good reason for this – your choice of venue will often set the theme for the wedding, usually take a large chunk of your budget and will ultimately dictate the size of wedding you are able to have.
Interestingly, wedding trends show that many couples are now opting for a much more intimate approach to their big day. With rising house prices and high day to day living costs (particularly in London) it’s easy to see how the cost of a wedding can soon spiral out of control; often overshadowing the real reason behind the celebration and taking much needed funds away from starting married life together.
So is it possible to have an intimate wedding in Central London? Where do you start?
Finding a wedding venue that can tick all the boxes and offer both style and intimacy in our capital city is not an easy task………… and we should know! Many traditional venues operate as hotels seven days a week so your dream day could potentially be shared with other brides, corporate events and the general sightseeing public – hardly an intimate option for you and your partner.
Our capital city does, however, have a hidden gem tucked away in leafy Belgravia that we are happy to say does tick all the boxes. Founded in 1891, the Caledonian Club was originally built as a private residence and provides a uniquely personal and intimate setting for your big day in the heart of London. Located in the grand and beautiful surroundings of Belgravia, adjacent to Hyde Park Corner and a short walk from Victoria Station, the club couldn’t be more central. Couples also have access to the stunning Belgravia Square for their wedding photos – green space is hard to come by in central London and it doesn’t come much better than this.
The listed building is licensed to hold wedding ceremonies and couples can choose from 4 licensed private rooms accommodating up to 150 guests. Alternatively, couples can opt to marry at the nearby churches of St Paul Knightsbridge, St Columba or St Michael’s in Chester Square before heading to the Club for their reception. Menus can be tailor made to match budgets with the help of the Head Chef and wines suggested by the in-house Sommelier. Why not incorporate a whisky tasting from the club’s impressive selection? Or walk down the sweeping staircase with a Scottish piper? Your wedding is special and the Club offer flexibility and flair to have the day you’ve always dreamed of.
With 39 bedrooms available in the original Clubhouse and a complimentary bridal suite for the happy couple, the Club can also offer weekend exclusivity of all their private banqueting rooms – another rarity in London. You will also be allocated a wedding organiser at the Club to personally advise, assist and guide you through every step of planning your perfect day – it’s all just part of the wonderful service this gem of a venue offers.
Without a doubt, smaller weddings offer couples the opportunity to focus on the personal experience that can often be overlooked with much larger weddings – there’s more time for the bride and groom to spend with their guests and everyone contributes to the event in his or her own way. Intimate celebrations, it seems, are setting a trend and the Caledonian Club offers couples a wonderful option in our wonderful city.
