Jay & Lewis
We met when I was 17 and Lewis was 19 when we both worked together at the same brasserie. Lewis said he knew I was the one from the start and asked to work on the same shifts as me to get to know me better.
How did the proposal happen?
We were in Venice in February 2013. We headed out for dinner on our first night and walked along the Rialto Bridge. Lewis took my hand and told me he loved me, then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! The moment was magical and the princess cut solitaire diamond ring was stunning. I said yes and we celebrated with a Champagne dinner by the river – Venice is such a special place to us.
I loved looking through the bridal fashion in Wedding Ideas to get inspiration – and the Wedding Ideas Instagram! I finally said yes to the dress at The Dressing Rooms, Halesowen after visiting a lot of boutiques. The ladies who run The Dressing Rooms were wonderful and made the experience unforgettable. My ‘Ingwiller’ gown by Enzoani was a stunning chiffon sheath gown with Guipure lace on the dress and train and a halter neck. I knew Lewis would love it!
The Dressing Rooms also supplied my soft tulle two-tier veil with lace detailing and my shoes were from Sophia Webster. My parents gifted me a beautiful bangle to wear on the day and Lewis bought me diamond and pearl earrings.
Lewis purchased his three-piece suit from Reiss and his shirt from Hugo Boss, paired with black patent loafers from Kurt Geiger. I gifted him a Tag Heuer watch and a silver tiepin engraved with his initials on the front and our wedding date on the back. He looked gorgeous – I couldn’t wait to kiss him!
My two best friends and Lewis’s two sisters were my bridesmaids. We chose dove grey dresses for them as our wedding venue, Elixir Ibiza is very glamorous with a grey and white scheme. Their Eliza J gowns were Grecian style, teamed with simple sandals from Zara and Swarovski earrings.
Our ceremony took place at Elixir Ibiza overlooking the Mediterranean ocean Es Vedra in the distance. It was an idyllic view and the perfect place to say ‘I do’ to my best friend. Lewis’s cousin and my two cousins all gave beautiful readings.
What music did you play during the ceremony?
My dad walked me down the aisle to ‘Crazy in Love’ by Daniela Andrade and I walked out with Lewis to Conor Maynard’s ‘Starships’.
We wanted a simple and elegant theme with touches of Ibiza glam, so we used white and grey tones for our colour scheme.
Each table was named after a place in Venice with the top table named after the bridge Lewis proposed on, and we added romantic quotes to each table. Elixir Ibiza’s in-house decorator, Elaine did a fabulous job dressing the venue. She used hearts, flowers and foliage throughout the room. Lewis and I also took out decorations, including a Mr and Mrs sign.
Rav from Ibiza Flower Shop designed our bouquets and buttonholes. My bridal bouquet was made with beautiful white peonies and Lewis had a matching buttonhole. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen had white hydrangeas.
We turned to The Cake Lady Ibiza – Mitch – to create our show-stopping wedding cake. I chose a five-tier cake covered in white fondant and cascading peonies. It was amazing! The layers were lemon sponge with buttercream and vanilla with white chocolate – our guests loved it!
Our invitations were made by The Boutique Paper Co from their ‘Love’ collection, with dove grey ribbon and a teardrop crystal jewel on each. We requested three songs from each guest on the RSVP to give to the DJ as a guide for the evening reception.
We had a Spanish guitarist play acoustic songs for us after the ceremony drinks reception followed by Elixir’s house DJ afterwards.
We always book our holidays with Travel Counsellors, so we turned to them to arrange our perfect honeymoon, too. We chose the Miami Edition Hotel and Sandals Antigua for our destinations. While in Miami, we attended a glamorous pool party at the W Hotel on South Beach, cycled along Ocean Drive and visited the must-see art deco district. In Antique we relaxed, taking a boat trip around the island, stopping at beautiful beaches and swimming with sting rays at Sting Ray City. We also went sea kayaking. Sandals was a fun and luxurious hotel and the food, drink and staff were all perfect!
