With all eyes on her, a bride can really show off her personality on her wedding day; whether it’s opting for a vintage-style side headband or statement crystal necklace, and who better to inspire you than those in the celeb world? Sangeeta Laudus talks to us about her favourite iconic wedding day scene stealers of all time.

Elizabeth Taylor

Although award-winning actress and screen legend, Liz Taylor married an incredible eight times, it was undoubtedly Richard Burton who was her true love. At their first wedding (yes they got divorced and then married again 16 months later) she wore a striking lemon chiffon dress with an emerald brooch and an elaborate headdress of lily of the valley and white hyacinths making her not only a picture perfect bride, but also one who must have smelled delightful.

Flowers are a lovely way to accessorise your hair on your wedding day, either with real flowers or faux flower clips and combs.

Melania Knauss

When the Slovenian super-model Melania Knauss married Donald Trump, she chose a Galliano crystal embellished wedding dress, which apparently took over 500 hours to embroider and weighed more than 60 pounds. The trick to carrying off a statement necklace is to keep the rest of your wedding jewellery simple and to ensure the detailing on the necklace doesn’t clash with your dress.

Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City

And finally, granted, this was make-believe, but I have to mention Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding to Mr Big in the first Sex and the City movie. Her bridal look had all the features of her iconic wedding style. In a strapless romantic Vivienne Westwood frock decorated at the bust-line with a bejewelled brooch and a daring green feather in her hair, she was a flamboyant yet absolutely breathtaking bride.

Feather-inspired accessories are very on-trend for 2013 as the love for all things vintage continues. If you don’t think you would feel comfortable with a large peacock feather in your hair, smaller feather clips and birdcage veils will still make a beautiful statement and give you a contemporary bridal look.

I hope these celebrity brides have given you some food for thought. A final word of advice, to create a stunning statement look on your wedding day, simply focus on your own unique sense of style and you will get it right: be proud, be bold and be beautiful!
