You’ve spent forever planning the perfect day and in a whirlwind of friends, family, dancing, and a little too much champagne, it’s suddenly over. Before you know it, you’re preparing for a few days of pure bliss with your loved one!
Packing a honeymoon wardrobe can sometimes be a little stressful, but this needn’t be the case according to Fiona Sanderson, owner and founder of online fashion boutique, FeatherAndStitch.com.
As a former senior buyer for Sir Philip Green, Fiona spent years travelling the globe to meet fashion designers. So needless to say she is an expert when it comes to both fashion and packing light!
Best foot forward… first
It’s useful to choose your footwear first and try to limit yourself to two pairs that are appropriate to your holiday type. This limits space taken up by shoes that you know, deep down, won’t see the sun or sand during your trip. A pair of pretty flat pumps or comfortable wedges will help you explore all day long, embellished sandals or your favourite heels will allow you to dance all night.
Mix and match
A good rule of thumb is to stick to a sensible ratio of 80% classics and 20% standout items. Your classics should be easily matched with each other so you have plenty of options to play with. Key capsule must-haves include a pair of great jeans, a flattering tee and a silk blouse, which always travel well.
It’s all in the detail
When selecting clothing for FeatherAndStitch.com, I’m often on the lookout for items that can be easily dressed up or down in order to be worn from 8am to 8pm and beyond. This philosophy is essential when packing, as accessories take up far less space than clothing. A well-cut tee and jeans can be transformed by adding a statement necklace then swapping a wicker bag for an evening clutch and a casual wedge for a striking heel.
Room for romance
Treat yourself to some brand new, beautiful underwear especially for your honeymoon. After all, it’s the most romantic holiday you’re likely to have and your capsule wardrobe should reflect this. There’s always room for a little romance, no matter what the luggage allowance is!
Ask the experts
Never be afraid to ask for advice in store. Boutique owners like myself love nothing more than styling ladies and knowing they will leave looking and feeling fantastic. In fact, I’ll let you in on a trade secret – it’s as much a treat for us as it is for you!
