When it comes to wedding jewellery, many brides-to-be are overwhelmed with choice – from statement pieces to classic touches, from vintage style to glitzy glamour, sometimes it’s hard to choose from all the options!
Here at Wedding Ideas, we always advise brides to base their wedding jewellery on the style of their dress, as this is a great way to keep your bridal look stylish and not muddled. Read on to see our recommendations for the perfect finishing touches…
Your dress is: Vintage lace, antique ivory
Accessorize with: Pearls
The vintage look is as popular as ever, with beautiful lace gowns being a firm favourite with our real brides. Pearl jewellery is an ideal match for a lace dress, as they look much softer than sparkly pieces – this makes pearls the perfect choice for bling-shy brides! Pearly hair accessories also look particularly beautiful in blonde hair.
You don’t have to ignore glittering accessories, but we’d recommend choosing something that is a bit more muted and antique looking for true vintage style. Hair combs are stylish choice and are great for adding the final touch to a vintage-looking dress.
Your dress is: A-line, long-sleeved
Accessorize with: A wedding tiara
Kate Middleton re-popularised the wedding tiara after marrying in a dazzling halo-style piece designed by Cartier, and they’ve remained a bridal favourite ever since. If you’ve chosen a princess-style, A-line gown or one with long sleeves like Kate, then a tiara is a great choice.
It doesn’t have to be an entirely traditional tiara, either – brides who want to add a more modern twist might prefer a side headband or vintage comb instead. Whether diamantes or pearls, most accessories work well with a princess-style dress, but particularly formal styles are a great choice. Don’t shy away from a veil either – it complements a pretty tiara perfectly!
Your dress is: Glamorous, embellished, mermaid-style
Accessorize with: Full-on sparkle!
Glamorous gowns with a figure-hugging silhouette and sparkly details are a dream to accessorise. Anything involving diamantes or crystals will help to create a red-carpet look – it’s just up to you how much to add! If your dress already has a lot going on, then you may not need to overdo it – unless you want to, of course!
A pair of chandelier earrings and a sparkly cuff would look stunning with a fitted mermaid dress, and strapless styles look amazing with a glitzy necklace. Choose dazzling hair pieces to finish the look – these especially suit dark hair because they will really catch the light and stand out.
Your dress is: Beachy, boho, relaxed
Accessorize with: Floral details
For a relaxed boho or beach feel, try accessories inspired by nature – a single floral pin in the hair, or smaller blooms interwoven into a plait can look gorgeous and summery. Take a look at the amazing floral hair accessories Kate Moss had at her wedding for inspiration!
We love a floral crown, but don’t shy away from wearing flowers elsewhere – try a traditional wrist corsage or pin larger floral brooches to your sash for real petal power! This is a great way to add a little colour into your bridal look too.
