Scottish sweethearts, Laura and Scott, travelled to New York City for a Big Apple celebration complete with breathtaking views and yellow taxis…
How they met
Laura and Scott first set eyes on each other on a night out in their hometown. “I thought he was gorgeous, even though he had very dodgy blond highlights at the time, but I didn’t pluck up the courage to speak to him,” Laura admits. Some months later, their paths crossed again on a night out, and they finally got talking.
Laura accidentally spoiled Scott’s surprise proposal by snooping on his texts! “We were going on holiday to Mexico, and at the airport, he kept texting his mum,” Laura confesses. “Being nosey, I wanted to know what he was up to, so I leaned over and noticed he was messaging his mum about asking me to marry him!” Laura then spent the first week of their holiday on tenterhooks, until Scott picked the perfect moment on their balcony at sunset.
The bride’s outfit
Willowy bride Laura was anxious about finding a dress to fit her 5’ 11” figure, but found exactly what she wan ws looking for in a Sottero & Midgley fishtail lace gowith a diamanté belt detail. “It was so different from any other dress I had seen, and exactly what I was hoping for for my city wedding,” Laura smiles.
The groom’s outfit
Scott wore a traditional kilt, hired from the shop in which Laura worked as a Saturday girl when the couple first met. “He and his groomsmen picked the colours themselves, and did a brilliant job, managing to co-ordinate with the bridesmaids without even trying,” Laura laughs.
The three bridesmaids looked sensational in their dresses from Vera Wang’s White Collection. The nude dresses featured a strapless style and a black belt, customised with a brooch.
Laura and Scott were married in New York’s Central Park in a Humanist ceremony. “We got married in the Ladies Pavilion, which has breathtaking views of the river, gardens and New York skyline,” Laura recalls.
Laura and Scott themed their reception around their wedding destination, with a menu including steak and American red snapper, cookies shaped like yellow taxis, and the Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge as favours.
The couple travelled to Los Angeles and Mexico before heading back to New York.
