A famous, bustling city and a great scene for winter sports, Vancouver is the perfect honeymoon destination for couples looking for adventure. It really does have something for everyone although if you’re looking for something more laid back, make sure you take a look at Whistler here…

Where is it?

Vancouver is a busy city set on the West coast of Canada.

What is there to do?

As you would expect from any big and busy city, you’ll never be stuck for things to do. There are plenty of attractions available for a honeymoon destination including museums, galleries and my favourite; the Vancouver Lookout, which is one of the tallest buildings in Vancouver offering great views of the city. For romantic trips, you’ll be spoilt for choice. We loved the Vancouver Aquarium – it’s full of sea life from all over the world that you’re unlikely to find in any British attraction including huge beluga whales! Make sure you check out their new 4D cinema, too, where you can virtually get up close with nature (watch out for the snake!). The aquarium was voted the most popular wedding reception venue in Vancouver in 2010, too!

We also tried out a horse drawn tour around stunning Stanley Park. For only $28.99 you can have an hour tour of the whole park with a guide revealing the history that surrounds the park and Vancouver.

I would definitely recommend the whale watching tour. After taking in the views on the way to the Georgia Straight, we suddenly saw large groups of orca (aka killer whales) swimming alongside our boat. It was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. The whales would swim right up to the boat and dive in and out between the waves. It’s a truly breathtaking experience not to be missed and such a unique thing to do at a honeymoon destination. It’s reasonably priced, too, from only $120.

What to eat

In terms of dining, the options are endless in such a busy city. For Italian food, I would recommend Cibo Trattoria. Their delicious menu and very intimate restaurant is so romantic. If you’re feeling glamorous, you can also dine on the top of Grouse Mountain in The Observatory. After travelling to the mountain peak on a gondola, you can relax and enjoy stunning views of Vancouver while you eat. I would suggest doing this at night for the full effect with sparkling lights from the busy city below.

L’Hermitage Hotel is certainly fit for newlyweds. Their luxurious suites are more like apartments! With your own kitchen, washing machine, fridge and ice maker, you’ll feel very at home. You can also take advantage of their heated pools, jacuzzi and gym. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous for the accommodation at your honeymoon destination, try the Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver. This stylish hotel is the tallest in Vancouver and offers unbeatable views, but is a definite no if you fear heights!
