Beautifully themed and elaborate stationery by Helen stands to be the very success behind Herta’s Creative. Helen combines intricate aesthetics with hand-picked colour palettes and inspired patterns. We interview with Helen herself who speaks about where she started, the themes that she has designed to inspire timeless weddings and how her bespoke stationary business has blossomed from an enormous passion for design, influences from travel and admiration for her role model! – her grandmother, Herta.

When did you launch your business and what is your background?
I launched my business briefly in New Zealand back in 2013 I started by designing character driven greetings cards. When I came back home last May I decided to launch into the Wedding stationery sector. My design background is Fashion. I started in the fashion industry 10 years ago and I specialised in Children’s wear…. I think that’s where my love of graphic design started.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
As mentioned above living in New Zealand for two years I travelled a lot around the country and up and down Australia too. I was very inspired by the laid back weddings they have out there. It is such a boho vibe to everything, weddings often take place in a vineyard or by a beach it is so relaxed! Another big inspiration is Herta my grandmother who my business is named after she was from Germany and was a real home body. My collection ‘Pretty Vintage’, which is pink with tea cups and flowers, is based on her.

What services do you offer and to who?
I offer beautifully and professionally designed Wedding Stationery for brides and grooms to be. I have set collections that brides can choose from that can be tweaked to suit their wedding day and colour palette, so colour changes and wording can all be amended to what they want for free! I also offer a bespoke service when I can design what you want! I also offer a service where I can do watercolour illustrations of the bride and groom to make their invites extra special.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working for myself and making my own decisions and designing exactly what I would like to design. I also like the excitement of working with brides and grooms on their special day and always feel so humble they choose me to design stationery that will complement their day! My designs are also ever evolving. Keep an eye out on my website where I have a ‘coming soon’ page to show new collections I am launching!

What is your unique selling point & what makes you different to other stationery suppliers?
I guess with my background coming from design I am very good at picking up on trends. I also, after living in New Zealand for 2 years and travelling the world with my old fashion job, have a real interest in travel and being inspired from what I see around me. I also am very versatile and can turn my hand to anything.
Where are you located and what areas do you offer your services in?
After living all over I am back in my home town of Stockport and I offer my stationery to everyone in the UK and even abroad if they want it.

What are the price ranges for your products?
Invitations start at £1.90 per invite in your chosen colours and wording and price includes the envelope. My prices are on a sliding scale, so the more you order the cheaper it gets! Also keep an eye on website I often offer special discounts! At the moment for a limited time I am offering 10% off all Wedding stationery booked.
How far in advance would you advise a bride to start sourcing their wedding invitations?
I would say a year and aim to send out save the dates anywhere between 9-12 months before your big day. See my website for my wedding stationery order timeline.
