Are you struggling to find the perfect wedding dress to suit your figure and your theme? So are the real brides below! Thank goodness that the experts at Romantica of Devon are here to help. We asked this top UK bridalwear company to reveal some of their most common bridal queries and here’s what they had to say…
“Help me find… a non-traditional gown”
Maria from our Clonakilty store emailed us regarding a bride with a dilemma. Her name was Neve. She was a size 12, 5’ 7” and her wedding theme was a country shabby chic affair. She wasn’t sure which dress to choose for her big day as she didn’t want to be too traditional as this simply would not fit in. She hated princess silhouettes, too much bling and white (way too traditional). We had a good think here at Romantica of Devon HQ and one dress instantly came to mind…
Our brand new bridal style, Sasha, had to be the one. This super cute T-length gown is perfect for a shabby chic day. Firstly, this dress would look amazing with wellies and as Neve was getting married in March 2014, wellies might be an essential item! The dress also has minimal bling (only a simple accent belt) and the trailing lace motifs fit perfectly with the theme. Neve loved this suggestion, having never considered a short design before, and she feel in love with the sweetheart neckline, too.
“Help me find… a dress for a petite bride!”
Having posted our offer of assistance on our Facebook page we soon heard from a wonderful bride called Kelly. Kelly was concerned that she had to balance too many different factors to find the dress of her dreams. Kelly is only petite at only 5’ 1” and she didn’t want to feel ‘stubby’ on her big day. She also had a limited budget and so it was crucial we found a dress that suited both her height and budget.
Our Pure bridal design, Brooklyn, had to be it! Kelly had specified that she would like a dress with a full skirt, a sweetheart neckline and some sparkle on the bodice. This dress seemed like the logical choice. It has a stunning bodice which has subtle sparkle detailing and a perfect sweetheart neckline to flatter her figure. The full tulle skirt is just what Kelly asked for and with this dress being from our Pure Bridal range, it is bang on budget, too! Perfect!
“Help me find… a gown for a non girly-girl!”
We received an e-mail recently from a bride who has also seen our Facebook post, offering our assistance in the quest for the perfect dress. This bride was called Helen and her message was titled ‘I am not a girly-girl’. For a girl who is essentially a tom-boy the idea of wearing high heels, being squeezed into a corset and covered in lace is probably a total nightmare! She went on to say that she was struggling to find a dress which flattered her boyish shape (a tiny size 8) and something which she didn’t feel totally ridiculous in. There was no way she going to wear heels and with a short bob haircut, she needed something to soften her look. This was a tricky one and we needed to get it 100% right to cure her wedding dress fear.
In the end we chose Phil Collins bridal design, PC3969, for its simplistic elegance. A clean cut sweetheart neckline would create the illusion of curves which is assisted by the waist defining ribbon detailing. The full satin skirt helps create a feminine feel and also keeps the dress simplistic and frill free. To begin with Helen was somewhat sceptical of our choice. “Way too lady-like,” she messaged back. A few days later she messaged again to tell us she had a visited a dress with the gown in stock and she simply adored it! It was something that she would never ever choose herself but it was perfect in every way. This just shows that you must always try a dress on before you make up your mind and never dismiss a dress on the hanger!
