P H O T O G R A P H Y: Binky Nixon & Photography by Katie (l-r)
2016 saw florists and couples fully embrace foliage to give their wedding décor flair. Now, with Pantone naming Greenery as their colour of the year, we can expect to see more of these luscious leafy details than ever.
The rich natural textures and earthy tones make greenery ideal for bohemian, outdoor, tipi and barn weddings. These organic-feeling touches will complement your existing surroundings – be that rolling fields or dark wood beams – perfectly. Burnished metals and mercury glass inject just the right level of weather-beaten chic to create an atmospheric and showstopping wedding reception.
Here are the six things you need to create the look for your own perfect day.

Greenery is beautiful when worked into floral arrangements, but it comes into it’s own when foliage becomes the focal point itself. Whether you’ve got rustic beams, pillars or marquee poles to work with, wrap garlands around as many areas as you can for best effect. These ivy garlands are the perfect option to create a romantic and rich atmosphere with a nod to charming English country gardens. You could even let some trail off at the ends, joined by flickering fairy lights…

The darker green colours are very evocative and pair beautifully with warm, darker toned metals. Now is the time to bring out your copper, brass or bronze vases and candlesticks to spread across your tabletops. An eclectic collection of these will only add to the charm, and if they’re a little tarnished from months in the attic? The more textured the better! Decorations like these will add an opulent touch to your more rustic greenery theme.

Warm, dark woods are also the way to go. Whether you hire in chiavari chairs in these tones or go for something simpler like this pretty stained wooden trug, the irresistible tone introduces all the warmth and romance of an enchanted forest… You could use this basket to hold confetti cones, for your flower girls to carry, to keep cosy blankets in or to fill with flip flops for happy party feet.

If you truly want to take inspiration from our featured wedding photographs above, then give your table runners a natural twist by using moss instead. It also works brilliantly when wrapped around large letters – just imagine moss covered Mr & Mrs letters on your trendy top table… Again, the introduction of candles in glass votives or fairy lights will provide the perfect level of lighting to really make your greenery sparkle.

And while these chair signs obviously aren’t the right hue themselves, they do sit beautifully together. The best reception decor is all about making the right matches – a bit like you and your groom, really! Greenery goes best with warm and natural textures so alongside your coppers and rich woods, why not introduce a few slate signs or chalkboards? Marvellously monochrome, they won’t intrude but can add sweet, sentimental touches.
How will you introduce greenery into your big day?
