Andrew & Louise
Andy and I met at work, I used to wind him up chronically, hiding his expensive pens and covering his desk in stickers! I then left and we didn’t see each other for a while, but it must have been meant to be because we bumped into each other again and I realised just how nice Andy actually is!
We were in Mexico when Andy proposed! It was the first place we’d ever been on holiday together two years earlier so it was close to our hearts. We were up on our room’s rooftop terrace having a drink after dinner. He sent me up first and the lights wouldn’t turn on, but we stayed up there anyway and had a glass of wine. He turned to me with a present and pulled out a ring box with a light in it! It illuminated the most beautiful brilliant cut ring with pave stones on the shoulders and clasp. I said yes just as fireworks started going off, perfect timing!
My dress was handmade for me by Kim, a local lady who’d also made my friend’s wedding dress. My fishtail gown had an illusion back with buttons running down it and was made from a satin base with a Carrington lace overlay. We added removable sleeves so that I could take them off for the dancing and the dress was finished with Swarovski crystals to add a little more sparkle! I felt a million dollars and Kim brought my dream to life fantastically.
To accessorise, I added a Swarovski bracelet and earrings, which were gifted to me by Andy. They were gold to match my maids and had clear crystals in them to complement my dress. I also added lots of individual crystals to my pair of ivory satin shoes.
Andy’s suit was the most beautiful suit ever! Anthony Formalwear made the bespoke suit for him. He chose a navy slim-fit lounge suit with a scoop neck waistcoat, wearing it with a white shirt, ivory tie and gold tiepin.
As a surprise for me on the day, he also had our wedding date embroidered under the collar. He looked amazing – the suit was so smart and fitted him perfectly.
We wanted quite a glitzy gold wedding so choosing sequinned bridesmaid dresses was perfect! My five best girls accessorised them with nude peep-toe shoes from Matalan and gold pearl earrings and pearl bracelets. They looked incredible and I was so proud of them!
My talented mother-in-law made the flower girl’s dress. It was beautiful! The top half matched my bridesmaids and the bottom was a stunning tulle skirt. She looked like a princess! The pageboys’ suits came from Roco Clothing.
Hair and makeup was also a family affair as my sister-in-law used to be a beautician! She is incredible and did all our makeup using Bare Minerals – a gift from my husband – because I wanted a natural look. I also had individual eyelash extensions on so I didn’t need to worry about mascara running when I cried. My two good friends did our hair. I was blown away – I have very talented friends!
Our ceremony was held in the Great Hall at Orchardleigh House in front of a roaring fire. The bridesmaids, ushers, Andy and I had all stayed there the night before and while us girls got ready, the men headed out clay pigeon shooting on the wedding morning.
Our ceremony was full of laughter and happy tears, although Andy did call me by my middle name by mistake at one point, much to the amusement of our guests! Mike Summers travelled from Essex to Bath for us to play live during our ceremony. It was so special walking down the aisle as he sang Ed Sheeran’s ‘Tenerife Sea’.
The food at the wedding breakfast definitely had the wow-factor! The majority of the ingredients come fresh from the estate, making it so delicious. Guests dined on a Brie and asparagus tart to start, with roast pork, crackling and all the trimmings for the main and sticky toffee pudding with a brandy basket and Chantilly cream for dessert. The venue also provided a fantastic menu for our gluten-intolerant guests.
Foto Fusion supplied our wedding invitations – we discovered them at our venue’s wedding fair. The ivory invitations had a transparent film photo on them of our venue and even had our initials monogrammed on – they were completely personalised.
We chose love for our wedding theme, adding lots of heart decorations and naming our tables love in lots of languages. A gold wedding colour scheme gave our reception the glitzy and glamorous feel we wanted. We bought LED wicker hearts for our centrepieces, spraying them gold to match our theme, and sprinkled gold crystals over the tables (get yours here!). Our ivory and gold post box was hired from Sweet Cart Party Hire in Somerset. Euphoria Entertainments supplied up lighting throughout our venue and Box Photo Booths provided the giant LOVE letters – the lighting created a wonderful atmosphere.
Andy has terrible hay fever so we opted for artificial flowers for our big day, using exclusively roses. We added initial charms to the bridesmaid bouquets as well as diamante pins throughout the flowers.
Our cake travelled up from Essex because Andy’s mum made it, so we had one traditional fruitcake tier and two illusion tiers. It was iced beautifully and decorated with sugar flowers. For guests who didn’t like fruitcake, we also provided M&S chocolate and vanilla cakes to tuck into.
Jager Bomb favours got our party started! We gave guests a small bottle of Jager and as Andy gave his speech, glasses of Red Bull were brought out. For one of his toasts, guests followed Andy’s lead and raised a glass with a Jager Bomb rather than Champagne.
As well as our singer during the ceremony and the DJ in the evening, we also had Groovy Revolution play for us and a fireworks display from 1st Galaxy Fireworks!
Pashminas were available in boxes with a sign that said ‘to have and to hold in case you get cold’ and guests had a great time with sparklers, too.
Our honeymoon is booked to Dubai and the Maldives. We booked our flights directly with Emirates. I can’t wait to spend 10 days in our over-water villa with a Jacuzzi!
Our top tips are to get your wedding filmed, even if it’s just by a friend due to budget restraints. I was so caught up in the moment that there are parts I can’t remember. I can’t wait to get to see my bridesmaids and I walking down the aisle in the video! We also booked our wedding on a week day. This saved us so much money and our guests didn’t mind taking time off work.
