If you’re a blonde

Certain types of accessories can get lost in blonde hair. Dainty clips or hairpins just won’t work unless they are just used in a chignon.

Blonde brides should consider choosing accessories with added sparkle. Combining freshwater pearls and diamanté is always a winning combination, particularly combs which have a spray of pearls. Lace or embellished fabric hairpieces also suit blond hair really well and are perfect if you’re planning a vintage theme.

If you’ve got long blonde hair, you will also be able to carry off that bohemian wedding look perfectly – think long tousled curls with a white flower wreath or pretty pearl forehead chain.

If you’ve got dark hair

Dark hair suits most types of hair adornments and even the smallest accessory will stand out, so diamanté mini combs and hair brooches are a good choice.

1920s-inspired designs are very on trend for 2014, and dark hair will set off the vintage detailing perfectly. If you’re wearing a side headband ensure there is detail or diamanté set along the whole band, or ask your hairdresser to hide the band, as otherwise the metal will stand out too strongly against the darker hue. Or ideally find a headband where you can match the band with the colour of your hair.

If you’re a brunette

Mid-length and long brunette hair lends itself to being swept up into stylish updos that can be accented with sparkly combs or pins. Great news if you’re planning a wedding with a glamorous theme.

Brunettes can also play with colour if they want to make a statement on the big day – another big trend for 2014. Emerald or ruby crystals set into a wedding tiara or comb would look stunning on a darker-haired bride and would enable you to add your own unique sense of style to your wedding look.

If you’re a red head

Redheads can really carry off crystal accessories with style. Pearls and white lace also look gorgeous on red hair and brides with bobs or pixie cuts can carry birdcage veils off fantastically.

2014 is also seeing a resurgence in gold accessories for weddings, especially vintage faded gold, and this looks just stunning against strawberry blond hair. Team the look with statement red lips and you’ll have a retro look to die for.
