Sam worked as cabin crew and Colin as an aircraft engineer, they got together for a first date at a John Legend concert in 2009 after knowing each for a few years through work. “We were cycling on holiday over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco when Colin proposed,” says Sam. “Colin persuaded me to continue cycling over a very large hill and when we got to the top, the view of the city was breathtaking. As I took it all in, Colin asked me to marry him. I couldn’t have been happier.” Colin had bought a ring to propose with in the UK, but bought the ‘real’ ring, that the couple chose together, while they were still in the States.

Sam had tried on over 20 dresses and was starting to think she’d never find her dream dress when she finally stepped into Lori G bridal studio in Allestree. “My dress was by Nicki Flynn. It was a satin cowl back, fitted lace gown in ivory with beaded appliqué,” she says. The bride bought her Jon Richard crystal headband, jewellery and matching Rainbow Club shoes in the sale at Lori G too. Colin decided he wanted to wear a Paul Smith suit for the big day, he found his suit and accessories at the flagship store in Albemarle Street in London before Sam had even started to look! Bridesmaids Carly and Hannah, wore cowl-back dresses in latte from Lori G and shoes from New Look.

Guest tables were decorated with glass bowls with scented floating candles and sprinkles. We had also brought white wicker hearts to put around the venue and a fingerprint tree as an alternative to a guest book.”

Figtree Invitations designed all the stationery and favours were scented Yankee Candles, scratch cards and retro sweets – and magazines for the children. Magician, Paul Grundle and Mark from Beefy’s Caricatures entertained everyone throughout dinner. Sam says, “It provided a real talking point for the day.” The couple had their first dance to ‘All of Me’ by John Legend. “Looking around the room and seeing everyone smiling is a memory I’ll always cherish,” says Sam.
