We caught up with the team at Errol Douglas where lucky Wedding Ideas competition winner, Lauren, got a magical makeover! Let’s see how she got on…
“We had a great chat with Lauren to really get under the skin of her personal style and her vision for the big day,” says Anna Baker, the head of the Bridal Team at Errol Douglas. “What I loved is she had a very clear picture, not just of the big day, but of her own fabulous look and preferences. We discussed a look that took on elements of glamorous retro – a 1940s or 50s curl which, teamed with her bold colour, I knew would deliver the wow factor!”
For the down ‘do
After a hydrating treatment and colour gloss, we applied a mousse and heat protection balm to wet hair and blow dried. Then we used the Errol Douglas Infra-red hairdryer as this locks in moisture from the inside-out, allowing a greater opportunity to keep the hair hydrated and protect the shine in the overall finish.
We set the hair in velcro rollers and Lauren had a manicure from our in-salon beauty therapist Janice while her hair cooled. Afterwards, we tonged through each section and pin curled her hair to the head. Next, we brushed out the waves into a soft twist on a vintage bob, giving the option for the hair to be down, with a deep side parting and lots of shine spray!
For the up ‘do
This consisted of a clean, secure vertical roll at the back section of hair, where the sides were pulled up to the crown, teasing out the curls as we went. The front top section was backcombed and teased into a soft barrel curl quiff, giving a nod to the inspiration of victory rolls, but without it looking too theatre.
“We wanted to freshen up the red colour because our bride was edgy and loved bold colour,” says Jessica Speechly from the Errol Douglas Colour Team. “We decided that the best thing to do was a red colour gloss. To achieve this we used professional Nitro Colour Creme 600 – Fire Red from Revlon. This helped get back the brightness and glossiness. It’s great to use leading up to the wedding to get your hair in the best colour, condition and shine.”
Lauren’s make-up look
“The bride-to-be had a very definite view on how she wanted to look on her big day. While I’m here to guide and suggest, it’s always great when the bride has a clear image of what she wants to achieve, just like Lauren,” says Joel Meadows from Salon MUA. “The red lipstick she brought with her helped shape and guide the look we then went on to create. Our key look words? Vintage, flawless and reminiscent to the 50s era.”
The base gave a flawless, English rose complexion, while the application of bronze and blush accentuated the cheekbones and gave a radiant glow. Brow powder defined and opened up the eye, without being too harsh, and a charcoal liner framed the eye to give the wow factor, which we teamed with the shimmer pigments and mascara to really accentuate. Lauren’s lips were lined and filled with her own lip shade.
