What gifts do engaged couples really want?
Struggling for engagement gift ideas? The item they probably want the most is actually more simple than you think
Your friends just got engaged, but don’t rush in with a bottle of champagne or some steadfast-and-pleasing houseplant… because you could be wasting your money.
One4all, the gift card created by the Post Office, recently conducted a survey on 1,000 adults in the UK, which aimed to discover what newly-engaged couples wanted most from their family and friends to mark their big news.
Some obvious potential options spring to mind – booze, houseware, wedding decorations. But the answer? According to the results, soon-to-be-newlyweds would rather receive gift cards or money than trinkets for their home, drinkable treats or, to be frank, anything else.
Over half the participants surveyed revealed that they’d rather receive cash or a gift card, while couple experience days were the third most popular answer.
A personalised, homemade or bespoke present (including artwork and photo gifts) followed, with champagne coming fifth.
With the cost of weddings as high as ever, it’s no surprise that money is deemed the most useful gesture. From dresses and catering to the venue and beyond – including the honeymoon – financial contributions can form a much-needed head start for a big day budget.
But while this may be the case for the engagement gift, what should you do for the wedding? If you need some gift ideas for food lovers or want advice on wedding gift lists in general, we’ve got you covered.
The Post Office gift card can be customised according to occasion and is valid across more than 50,000 UK outlets.
